Dealership costs????

Ordered new brake pads from rock auto and some SS brake lines from Toytec. My local dealership quoted me $1400 for labor to install just the lines front and rear (10 hr labor) and that doesn't include labor to resurface front and rear rotors and install pads.
Does that seem like a right price or way to high?

I work in a Lexus dealer and our labor rate is $149/hr. Depending on your location (I'm in the midwest) that could be right on the money for 10 hours of labor.

Just do it yourself, spend the $1400 elsewhere...

That sounds stupidly high just to install stainless brake lines. I don't want to quote you incorrectly because I've never done it myself on a 4Runner, but I have installed stainless brake lines on another vehicle and it took maybe 2 hours. $1400 cost quotes seem right for the time, but the 10 hours quote is absurd to install some brake lines (frankly 10 hours should be more than enough to do brakes and the lines)

I know it all goes by the book but...

if you are good enough to charge $140/hr it shouldn't take 10 hours to install brakes with new flex lines.

I would calmly talk to the service manager, explain what you want and offer to pay a reasonable price like $900.

I wouldn't use the dealership for something that simple. Search for a Toyota specific shop if you want. Or just ask around, any good mechanic should be able to do it much cheaper.

I kinda figured it would be something like you guys are all saying, I’m having Toyota do pads and resurface rotors but I told them to hold off on my lines and I found a local mechanic I’ll call In a few days who should be considerably cheaper

2 hour job for anyone with a clue. Stealership living up to their name and likely clueless hack mechanics. Find a regular mechanic, absolutely no reason to EVER go to the dealer for anything other than warranty work.

Just to clarify, are you sure they didn't quote replacing every brake line on your T4R and not just the flex lines?

I ask because if they're quoting all the brake lines which includes all the brakes lines running along the frame then they are not all that out of line, I believe they would have to drop the gas tank and have a few more obstacles just to get to some of the brake lines running along the frame, and not to mention the cost of all the brake lines.

I agree. 10hrs to change out the flex lines doesn't sound right.
