Dealership drilled holes in our 4runner bumper

The dealers don't read the full text of the law and typically run roughshod over the customer while selectively misquoting the law to boot.

I also went through this BS and the dealer had to replace that piece of the bumper on mine. I've made a simple bracket to hang the plate below the front bumper. I am currently searching for a spring to allow the plate to fold back if I bump it while off roading.

I don't mind them here. Save me from having to look at countless Calvin peeing on Ford, Chevy, Dodge plates, Princess, John Deere, Nascar, etc. plates.
 
I’ve payed for the ticket. It’s like $50. I think the fix it cost $10-15? I dont know, I didn’t fix it.haha. I don’t mind the plate on the front of the Toyota. I’ve got a 2008 #’d srt8 challenger that will not see a front plate so I feel the pain of the op. Tell them you want to keep your old bumper...

I agree with you. But seeing those holes would push me off everytime. I hate it when people mess with things that shouldn't.
 
I would be pissed. When I bought mine I informed the dealer not to install it and make sure the holes were not drilled.

Hmmmm. This is true.

I have decided not to go the re-painted front bumper route. Now, what to do to make it right and make us happy is a whole different subject.
 
I got my ORP in Maryland before they drilled for the front tag frame but all of the bumpers without frames have these little divots that Toyota puts to show where the plate frame screws go. So I said "screw it" and just put on the frame myself. I figured the plate might stop a parallel parking scuff (as people seem to want to park by Braille in the city and at least I know that I would put the frame on straight... unlike many trucks on the lot with slight askew frames.

(B) The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.

(b) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

Enforcement of this seems to be a low priority. But if you do get a fixit ticket you will have to install a plate and pay the fine. And get an officer or the court to sign off on it.
Big pain in the butt.
I just had the front plate installed when I bought the truck. It doesn’t look so bad.

I'm aware of this, I drove my '12 ISF for the past 6 years without a front plate and got ticketed three times for fix it tickets. I show up at CHP with the plate on a special holder that attaches to the tow connector, and then I remove it as soon as I'm done.

It's my personal preference to not have the front plate. You can ask the dealer to not drill the holes here in CA, I've done it twice for my two Toyotas that were just in from Japan. My '12 ISF and my '18 4runner TRD PRO.

Please, 1 in 20 cars in CA doesn't even have a rear license plate. A symbol of the legal chaos of that state.
