hey team....i know about our little clunking noise in the drive shaft and the guys at my dealership said that it is covered under Warranty and offered to replace it as my truck is under 100 000 km
is there any danger in replacing the drive shaft?
your thoughts?
the clunking isnt really that bad.....but if their offering me a new drive shaft......what do u think....

Can't really say if theres any 'danger'. But, why bother unless it's some kind of new and improved part.

I have an '05 and nothings been changed, I get the clunking, in fact, when its hot out and I'm running the A/C, I can feel it clunk 3 or 4 times in a row.

When they do come out with a new and improved drive shaft, I'll be first in line.

I'm assuming it's not a new design, did they tell you its been redesigned.
 
I've got the clunk... we had a clunk on my wifes old Explorer, too. I think it's just the nature of SUVs to be clunky.

I have the replacement driveshaft and the problem still exists although a bit less....I think. It's been so long now that I don't really even notice it.

I'd have to agree with this. I noticed the "clunk" on the first warm day after I bought my '06 4Runner. I think the engine revving up when the compressor kicks in has a lot to do with it.
But if I'm correct in feeling what I think is the clunk, then I can tell you that my '04 RX 330 did and '00 Tacoma (both 4WD) does act the same way. I became more sensitive to it after I was rear-ended in the RX 330, because that's sort of what it feels like - a low-speed bump in the rear end.
It's a bit more pronounced in the 4Runner... I thought that was because of the V8.
I've learned to hold the brake pedal down a little harder at the stop light, and that seems to help considerably.
 
Still no TSB for 4Runners.
Even if it works, they're probably trying to take care of the Lexus people first before they get bombarded by 4Runner people.
I'm still a little skeptical because the people on ClubLexus are posting things like "had it done last week, and no clunk since." Just adding lube will fix it for a while, so I think we need some more time to evaluate it. There's also one post that says it seemed to help but didn't completely solve it.
 
The Lexus people are getting redesigned rear control arms in addition to the new propellor shaft, so I think that combination is what's actually fixing their problem for good. Since our problem is the same, their parts and TSB should be the same for us, but it isn't.
