Dealership Servicing...

So I went to the Toyota dealership to the service center to get an oil change, diff fluids changed and they do an inspection of your vehicle for any other issues (main reason I went since it's a 1999 with 220k). I can do the oil and diffs myself (did them in my 2011 xterra) but I am not allowed to do fluid changes at my apartment. I am surprised to say that they didn't come back with anything additional (little surprised and not sure they actually looked well) but I looked at the 2 differentials and xfer case and there is no sign of over pour or anything so I am a little worried they charged me for something they didn't do. I told them what I saw and they said they spray brake cleaner on it to clean it off but I didn't see any smudging or anything. Do you think a reputable dealership would seriously do that? I know the oil change shops do as I have seen plenty of documentaries on them and they just say they did it and didn't touch it. I usually watch all services be done but they pull it in the very back where they work on their cars. Can I get some opinions please?

Can't speak for any other dealer but at mine we use brake clean and then blow it off with compressed air so the truck leaves dry. There has been too many instances where someone takes their car home and a drop of fluid falls on the garage floor and then they claim a fluid leak

Yeah makes sense. That's what they said they did. He offered to put it back on the lift and show me but I didn't wanna get charged again for something so simple. I did look at the front diff and the way it's shaped would make the fluid spill all over the bottom as it rolls out towards the last bit of fluid leaving and it did looked wiped off. I guess I mainly feel uncomfortable because I usually do these things myself or at least watch them being performed. I don't like not seeing it happen

Yeah I know what you mean. That's when I'm trying to sell a job I bring the customer out to show them on the car instead of what the tech wrote down on a piece of paper.

The reality is if three job is done right, the truck should look like it wasn't touched. No drips, no oil slick, etc. As my old teacher used to say, "if the job is done right the car should look as good or better than it came from the factory. "

My father is getting older and lives too far for me to service his truck, but I do see that the shop he frequents will take a paint pen to his fill, drain plugs and filters to save themselves this argument. You can do the same to yours next time. At least you'll know they opened/close the fill and drain if the marks no longer line up. What they put in, that's for another thread.

dealership scam

IF you are really sure that they didn't do anything on your truck but still they charge you, speak up. If they insist, then pay and walk away. Don't waste your time with them and find a reliable one. That's the best thing to do.

The bolt is rusty and it doesn't look taken off but I will check it in a few days.
