I mean, the stock portable jack ca't possibly be long enough, and a full sized jack isn't very ergonomic.

The factory bottle jack is long enough. It just depends on where you are jacking it up.

+1 on high lift thats about the best way to lift a truck when on the trail.

the height of the truck has nothing to do with the jack...... but a hi lift jack would go plenty high either way

I also have a Hi-lift, but if you don't have sliders and off road bumpers, it won't help you much.

The stock bottle jack works fine when lifting as recommended by Toyota. The jack points are under the front lower control arm and under the rear axle. I also carry a hi-lift. Along with the hi-lift I carry the offroad base and the stock jack drops in great.

I need to cut a block of wood or steel to fill the void to keep the jack from sliding. Maybe even secure it with a bolt and wing nut.

Flex it out and get the tire you need off the ground up in the air! ive done this several times and it works awesome as long as the truck is steady where it is and isnt rocking around on you.

Those pictures show a creative use of the Hi Lift and rocks.
Sorry to see the troubles out on the that gnarly looking rock trail. But it makes a fantastic picture.
Looks like you had it under control.

+1 for hi lifts. For now only place I can use it is from the rear hitch ... for now. Stacking rocks work. I find the real problem is the spare being underneath.

for those of you without sliders/bumpers, hi-lift sells these things Hi-Lift Lift-Mate (LM-100) - lift vehicle wheel directly from the wheel | Hi Lift Jack Company

It works really well, you'll have to use jack stands (or rocks or something) if you want to change your tire. Works great for jacking up the tire and putting rocks/logs underneath when you are stuck

I got mine from the local 4x4 store for 40$ or so.

Some CV repairs. I remember the parking lot repair.

Hi-Lifts are great but they also suck. They can be dangerous. Make sure that the base is solid and that the top isn't going to slip off. Also keep your head away from the handle. It can pop up and get you. I won't wheel without one.

I just carry a foot long chunk of 4x4 wood in the back and use the factory bottle jack.

Those with tubular sliders. Hi-lift make an adapter to fit right on the tube. Makes it much safer!
