Short commute is also not that great for the powertrain...and since Hummers are GM vehicles, that can't be good in the long run!

BTW, why are we talking about one specific rare situation?? I am sure that there are plenty of Civic owners who drive 3 miles to work...and Hummer owners who have to drive 35 miles to work. What was the point of this?? For example, i have to drive my G500 at least 70 miles everyday...on some days, 140 miles. I am sure that there are Civics/Corollas out there who drive less than me. BTW, this is why i now drive my minivan to work....

We're not talking about once specific example....we're talking about the same thing that happens over and over again all across this country of ours.

BTW, it's funny but YOU are a perfect example. You have a gas guzzling G500 and you also own a Corolla. You have stated numerous times that your Corolla gets the basic commuter duties while the G500 stays parked more often and is used for weekend fun. Your Corolla is obviously much more fuel efficient than your G500, but if you drive it ten times as much, things look a bit different when it comes to buying gallons of gas.

BTW, anyone who works 3 miles from home has less persuasion to buy an econobox than someone who lives much farther from work. Sure, people drive other place besides work and back home again, but I believe the daily commute is where most people put the majority of miles on their vehicles.

So you are your own little microcosm of my example between my two neighbors, one with an economy car and one with a gas guzzler. Thanks for helping me prove my point that fewer miles driven on a gas guzzler can be advantageous to more miles on a more economical vehicle. Good job!

It's a dumb argument since the average american drives over 12k a year and the Hummer owners are using up more gas than Civics on average.

This turned into a childish pointless and off topic turn to the thread.

We'll see what happens to the 12 mile a gallon cars over the next 5 years and I bet you'll see less and less Hummers being driven on a daily basis.

The average Civic owner drives much more miles per year than the average Hummer owner.

The 12K mile per year average is based upon all vehicles. It doesn't mean that all Hummer owners average 12K per year and all Civic owners average 12K per year :bigok:

Why doesn't the Hummer driver drive less?? Maybe the gas prices make it tough for him/her to drive so much with the Hummer?? The same thing happened to me and my G500. Before the gas price hike, i used to drive my G everywhere...no so anymore.

Now you're starting to understand.... Yes, higher fuel prices tend to make people drive the most economical cars that they own. Some people even sell their less economical vehicles and buy more economical vehicles to replace them. Simple concept, huh big guy? But when a Hummer owner puts only 3,000 miles per year on his vehicle because he lives very close to work, he has less reason to sell it or change his driving habits than someone who drives more miles out of necessity.
