decal removal

My 4runr came with decals which have been on there since new. I would like to remove them. What is the best way to do this? Will the decal outline be on the truck or will I be able to buff it out?

depending on how well the paint has been taken care of, i would imagine there might be an outline of where the decal used to be. usually you can get them off by heating it up with a blow dryer and then peeling it back. this worked getting the dealership decal off mine but im not 100% sure about the big ones.

heat it up real nice, and peel off, then you will be left with the glue, you can use goo gone, or acetone or paint zinner, those last too you need to use quick and light, they will do the job but might damage you paint if not done right, also wax after using last two...

Thanks for the advice. I tried a hair dryer with no luck. I have been afraid to use the heat gun but I'll try it on the low setting first. Had not thought of Goo gone. The truck was parked outside since '89 but the paint looks ok. The decals are faded but not cracked.
