lux...nice to see you keeping this thread up-to-date...it is one of the most useful threads for mods on this site

I'm trying to pick a day to sit down and put in a car-puter *hehe*...i'm just soooo lazy!

I'm also trying to decide if I wanna put the wing on the back or not...I have it, just never put it on....it is one of those things, once it goes on, there is no going back

Thanks man. It actually isn't as up-to-date as I would like. I just have next to no time these days. I started a new job, which equals more money for the runner, but no time for anything. Before the snow season is over, I have to post up some details about the chains I bought and used. They were great........in the most important way......easy to install.

BTW, I really enjoyed the stuff you've posted around the forum too.

It got me thinking and I have another idea for how you can get the OEM chrome door handles. It's an obvious idea, but I didn't think of it before, so I'll pass it along in case you want to pursue it. TRADE someone with and '06! Some people would actually prefer the monocolor look. I think if you do enough advertising/searching around the board you might find someone. I almost did that with the hood scoop, but I thought shipping would be a problem with such a big item. I'd consider it for my door handles except I don't know what condition mine are in under the tape and there are scratches from people's rings so no-one would want to trade with mine. I guess finding someone with the same color might be a little tough, but it's possible.

These were the easiest chains to put on ever. It took like less than 5 minutes with minimal effort. They are "SUPER Z LT" from Pepboys and I think they were like $89.

And here is the reason to get the all-weather mats. As you can see some spilt over the edges, so if you are worried about that little spillage you should get the aftermarket brands. But I am happy with my choice. I just love the fit and look of the Toyota brand mats.

BTW, my dad has a set of these same chains from a few years ago, they even have the same box.........and they have made some major improvements on how these suckers install. A world of difference.....from completely horrible to no trouble at all. Just thought that tidbit might help someone. I'll try to provide some more details as to why at a later time. I guess the point is, don't by a used set and expect them to be as good as the ones you'll find in the stores today.

Well, I did another lunch-time mod, and since it was completed in less than an 15 minutes or so, you can imagine it is yet another minor addition to my 4runner. Thanks to everyone that posted in the Maglight modification EZ as pizza pie thread for the idea. I opted to use a little different mount than they did. I love this mount because it doubles as a swiveling belt holster. I bought my mags at costco for $19.99 which included the D and AA aluminum finish mags, batteries, and AA belt holster. This D mount is by Nite Ize and I bought it from Zbattery.com for $12.83. Shipping was pretty cheap since I ordered 4 things from them. One cool thing about this mounting location is that it doubles as additional light for the interior if needed.

Sorry if you guys are getting bored with all my small mods........somebody just rated my thread a 4-star :headslap: ......which I guess is like a B......so it's not that bad I guess.

i wonder if an industrial stregth velcro can handle Mag lite's weight. and the force to push the cam lever on the lite lock. id like to do the same but with a velcro instead of drilling holes.

My thoughts are the industrial strength velcro might just have industrial strength glue that would do more damage than 2 little holes. Am I interpreting you reason for the velcro correct? Or is it to have the flexibility to attach different items to the same mounting point?

Depending on your exact mounting location, you might have a little difficulty finding enough surface area to get the maglight to connect to your vehicle to get the velcro to work.

to avoid drilling, thats why i thought of velcro. but good point about the industrial strength adhesive behind velcro.
i have two choices, one is where you installed yours and the second one is on the lower portion of the door pillar, driver side.
i played around a litle bit, seat movement is not hindered, just a little weird for accessing mag lite.

One quick note about that pillar location is to make sure you don't hit any side airbags, if you have them. I'm not sure if it goes through there or not, but I'd want to make sure.

GAS RANGE

Ok, so I was on my way home the other day and noticed that the gas range computer was about to go to zero, so I zero'd my trip odometer thing at the same time.

The result? I got to a gas station 3.0 miles after the gas range computer said "0 miles". Has anyone pushed it further? The only other times I was on "0 miles", I never clocked it before.

BTW, the runner sucked up exactly 21 gallons. Have you squezzed in more than that?

I don't remember exactly because it was a while ago. I am pretty sure I just drilled a very small pilot-hole and then the screw kinda created it's own thread path. I believe I used either a wood screew or more likely a sheetmetal screw. Neither of which have a nut on the other side. If I were to use a nut, then I would probably try a locking nut so that it doesn't rattle loose and get lost in that compartment. Good luck. I'll take a look later today and if I did something other than anchor it right into the plastic, I'll let you know.

Oh, shocking news from my family! I helped my dad buy a Honda Pilot Ex-L w/ Nav yesterday. I know...crazy huh? Well, at least next year he'll give it to my mom and he's going to buy the redesigned 2008 Sequoia FULLY loaded or Lexus equivalent! So the rational with the Pilot was it is more mom-like and the 3rd row seats fold flat and it was less money.
