Possibly. I live on Long Island which is an evacuation nightmare so I'll be spending the few days before and after camping out in the PA mountains. lol. Call me crazy but I'd rather play it safe, ya know?

i live close to SF which is a earth quack nightmare i think im gonna go camp out at sierra mountains for a week playing it safe too.

dude all kinds of prophecies lead to that day being a disastrous day in earth's history.
the myan calendar, which was spot-on, ends on that date.
watch discovery channel, they'll put enough doubt in your head to make sure that you're not on a coastline on that date :lol:
ONE of the Mayan calendars ends on that date. Just like our calender, it starts again (actually, theirs begins every 52 years). The Mayans thought the end was unlucky because they were not sure if their gods would allow them to begin another calender. Obviously, one or two of these cycles has happened over the years...
I have seen a few advertisements for movies that are trying to scare people about that date....they tend to leave out a few small details.

I'm not freakin' out...just being cautious. If you've ever driven the Long Island Expressway during rush hour, you'll know what I mean. And that's ONLY the people who work. AND get off between 4 and 5 pm.
There's only 3 main highways out of here, so I'm gonna be out before the entire island.

People have been predicting doomsdays that have come and gone without doom for as long as there have been people there to listen and believe it. Some people seem to get some sort of sick thrill out of promoting some nutty idea and getting a bunch of people to believe it. I think the worst thing that could happen from this is if enough people actually believe it and try to get out of town at the same time (mainly in the big cities), or make a run on the grocery stores or gas stations to stock up, causing supply shortages, delays and inconveniences for everyone. I don't think enough people will buy it for this stuff to happen though.

They proved what? That their gods would or would not grant them another calender? Nothing mathematical about that...
The Mayans were good observational astronomers, just like the Greeks and Romans...but that doesn't mean that I will believe in this movie:

(BTW, the plot of this movie is absolutely hilarious. If you have even the most basic info about neutrinos, you know that it is completely impossible to cause a rise in the earth's temperature.)

It all has to do with our passing through the current galactic beam, and that in 2012 there will be an earth ReGeneration. Check out that book! for real, I am not in any way talking about the 2012 movie, and I agree it may be more of a comedy than anything.

If you're going by the Mayan predictions (and not all the others that fall into this same period in time), it's seen as a new cycle. People are interpreting it as the end of the world because it completes their largest cycle. However, it could just as well be the start of some huge change/new era.
The way I see it, doomsday could be right around the corner. There are people who peg the apocalypse as happening in the next few decades when looking to Revelations in the Bible and what has come true of that. Pretty sure it'll just be a repeat of Y2K, but I won't make the mistake of venturing near a Costco for this one. Regardless though, Carpe Diem...and if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. Nothing we can do about it (but I really don't think it's going to be what everyone seems to be so scared of).

I took quite a few Astronomy, Astrophysics and Physics courses in college (hell, I even ended up with two degrees in the subject) and have never heard of a "galactic beam". I looked it up and it seems to be some sort of "beam" that comes from the center of the galaxy (none of the websites I found gave any specific information about this "beam"). The only types of beams that come from the black hole at the center of our galaxy are x-rays and infrared radiation that are emitted from the accretion disk (in fact, this is how they find black holes). This radiation is emitted at a perpendicular angle to the plane of the galaxy (i.e. not in the direction of the earth).
It should be noted that most of these astronomical observations that were made by the Mayans were done with the human eye. The telescope wasn't invented until the early 1600's by Galileo.
Again I will say, if you are freaked out and have a really cool house that you are looking to get rid of for cheap, I'm your guy!:bluejump:
