Dechroming badges

Is there a way to dechrome the badges? I don't want to debadge my truck. I was thinking of maybe a safe way to use a dremel to sand it off without damaging the plastic. I had the misfortune to get one wit the gold package which I hate. Any ideas?

Plastidip. I did mine a year ago and they still look great, tons of color choices as well.

X 2 for PlastiDip. I used their Smoke product on my chrome badges. It’s more of a shading than a color. The result was kind of a steel or gunmetal look, which is exactly what I was shooting for.

This video is a great source of info. Tip: have a pair of tweezers handy when it’s time to peel. They’re very helpful in (carefully) getting ahold of very small corners and edges.

Maybe the best thing about it is that you can just peel it off if you don’t like it. I did my grille “frame” in black, decided it was too much, and ended up peeling it.

Thank you for all the idea guys. Problem is I have Shakey hands which makes masking difficult. I will probably end up either leaving them as it of trying to used testors model paint to paint them a sanguine red. The kind that comes from a vein not artery. Think it would look good with whatever the dark grey metallic is called that the rest of the truck is...

That’s the beauty of PlastiDip, all you have to mask is a rectangle around the badge. Then you peel the ‘Dip and it comes off except for what’s on the letters or emblem. Not my pic but to illustrate:

What Bluesky said...you don't even need to be that close with the masking. It pulls off in a rubber sheet. Put down at least 5 coats, let them dry, grab a corner and peel. This was on my old Tacoma and lasted without an issue for years. Snow, salt, pressure washers...Plastidip is incredibly durable.

Just make sure your badges are completely clean & dry before you start.

I did my 2007 in 2009, sides on a Titanium T4R. Still looks good. Still get comments once in a while.
