Howdy yall. Haven't been on in a while, so here is my official post that is going to represent my return.

Winter is coming, and i am tyring to get a good idea of good gear to carry with you at all times.

For example, i have in my car:

Heavy duty flash light, portable air compressor and a frisbee.

Ya see, i know there is other stuff out there that i need.

Help me out

Welcome back! This should make for a good thread.

I guess a couple of other good things to have would be a shovel, wool blanket, and a bag of cat litter.
 
Yea this def should become a long thread.

Those are def good ideas.. Let me ask you this, do you know of a good company that sells collapsible shovels or something along those lines?

Unfortunately no. I'm looking to get one though, but can't seem to find too many.

Check this one out. Seems to be pretty durable and light weight. It's $40 though, so I don't know how many people would be interested in that one.

Most Sporting goods stores will have some folding shovels for camping and stuff like that. Those ones are usually a little smaller and made of metal, like the E-tools we have in the Army. You can usually find them for about $15-$20.

Drew, you are back! How are you doing? I hope everything is going well for you. I carry flashlights, extra batteries, cell phone charger, shovel (even though it is a 4Runner), jumper cables, and an air compressor. Other things I recommend is a space blanket, de-icer/washer fluid, antifreeze, and a small tool kit. I think the frisbee is the most important thing to carry with you! Since we are talking about winter, a football may not be a bad idea either! :D

I have one for my 4Runner and one for Camry.
My Dad got theirs already.
My step brother living in CA seems OK without it.

Hitch shackle
Tow straps with loop ends (no hooks)
Leatherman (or similar)
Flares
Work Gloves (I got a pair with thinsulate for $3 at WallyWorld)
Shovel (Coleman collapsable $10)
First Aid kit
CB Radio
Jumper Cables

Duct Tape

For remote trips, pack some power bars and bottled water.

I got the shovel off ebay for $10 shipped. It's a military style tri-fold shovel but should work great for getting out of snow. You can also use the blanket for traction or get some snow claws for your tires since you're still on Dunlops.
 
I carry some bungee cords too, for securing things to the roof rack or to the tie downs inside in the cargo area.

And yes, the frisbee is the best item in there. We should figure out how many of us play ultimate and have a game sometime :)
 
yes, and i forgot the bungee cords. Very very essential.

Yea, i should def be there on 12/3 although i don't have anything to put on as of yet. Any ideas. And yes i am thinking about the life.

But firsti want to get "winterized" and put all the necessary isht in the rig.

Any more ideas
 
man these are some good ideas. Time to go shopping..... AGAIN

And this may be a sill question bobby, but why not hooks?
 
hooks = dangerous. If they fly out... become loose..... anything like that. Hooks are used more for towing.... and not recovering.
 
Gotcha. And another thing, what is a good recovery strap.

Bobby showed me a set a while ago, but i can't remember who makes it.

i always carry a travel bag packed with everything that i might need, including an extra jacket, gloves, etc and a first aid kit. i just keep it in the back of the truck in case i ever need it :) that and i make sure i have the number to roadside in my wallet!

Since i am a memeber of AAA, just call them up and order that set, or can i get it from somewhere else..

Costco always get similiar products from Costco warehouse or, say Wal-Mart.

I have one bag for each vehicle I have. My dad also bought his own.
