I now own a 2001 SR5 4 WD with 117,000 miles on it. There were 4 previous owners and one minor rear bumper bender. It is in good condition with a few scuffs on the exterior, but nothing major. The interior is in great shape except for a cig burn in the rear seat. The timing belt, water pump, etc was replaced at 115,000 miles. ALL diff fluids and transfer case were changed at the same time. It shifts in and out of 4WD flawlessly. It runs very good and the tranny shifts smoothly. NO problems that I know of. Very minor surface rust on the undercarriage, again nothing major. I have owned several and the 4WD on demand works the best of any I have owned.
I have a chance to purchase a 1998 Limited 4WD silver that has 45,000 miles on it. It is in excellent condition inside and out. I have not driven it yet, but with those kind of miles, it probably is fine.
My question is this: Can you guys tell me the differences between the 2001 and the 1998 Limited ? I know a few like the cup holder and the 4WD system will be different. Can you give me a rundown on the differences between the 2 ? I can only afford to keep one or the other.

Thanks in advance.

Go here and scan through the history links on the left towards the bottom. I'm on a cell right now other wise id give you a better link or do it for you, you should also read most everything else on that site, that guy did good work imo. And am modeling my build after him, liny's and killermikepa or whatever his screen name is lol.
Hope this helps it should clear things up if not i think one of the sticky s up top covers this

I'd stick with the '01. 117K miles is low on these anyway. All the major stuff already done ( Factory tranny cooler bypassed, I hope! )

If you are able to pickup the '98 for cheap, get it & flip it ( re-sell for profit, not roll it over )

If the 98 has an e-locker get it and swap all the upgrades from your 01 to the 98, or take the rear axle from the 98 and swap it to the 01...whichever you can do easier
