deck plate and air elbow mod

I have just completed the two of these and there is a night and day difference!
when passing the 4Runner holds gears longer and gets in the power band much faster. i do like the extra power would like to know what I might have gained from doing these to mods. any ideas? the only down side to these mods are that my truck is much much louder at full throttle but I think I can get over that.

I read rumor that the deckplate mod gave about 7rwh and a couple more for the irs. I cannot confirm this because I do not have a dyno or the isr mod. But I too noticed the pep from the deckplate mod, and the throaty gurgle when I Am passing 3000 rpm.

I dont know about gaining power......

I have both k&N Cold air intake and vortex muffler, and I felt I lost some power. my mechanic thinks so too.

Additionally, i cleaned the maf sensor when the newly installed pre-oiled filter oiled up the sensor pretty good. So good that my engine would die upon ignition.

can someone send the link for the ISR Mod...i have already done the deckplate mod thanks

sorry guys i know a newbie question i need the linkys too, been searching and alot of talk but no action, also the mod(god) on this site that has the sig avatar
needs to update the links in the faq for the t4r's i got 404'd on all of them.....

thanks again guys.

and what do you guys think about just doing the isr mod alone? i don't want to cut up my deckplate, so i was thinking just doing the isr mod with a ams oil air filter......

anybody have any draw backs?

If you're gonna do these mods, I'd get at the minimum a new muffler. Doesn't do much good to increase airflow (volumetric efficiency) without increasing exhaust flow as well. Mysef and a few others are running Flowmasters and the like on ours.

yeah, i don;t really want todo the deckplate mod, i may just buy a deckplate from a crashed runner and put one together so i can have my sealed stock one back..... i've lost vehicle(s) before due to getting water in the intake......do not want that to happen again after picking up pieces of my block over a 1/4 mile...lol

if no one in the history of time has scrapped their block becuase of the deskplate mod then i MAY concider doing it, becuase i know with my luck it'd be me and one other guy on the planet that has had that happen...

lol

don't mind the isr mod and an exhaust is a must i got some fag a$$ chrome tip on the stock exhaust right now and need it to go away....

You are more likely to get water into your induction with the factory setup. I used to trash air filters everytime I went mudding. The front tires act like pumps and you get water and mud in there every time. The stock setup draws air from above the plastic wheel well liner. Not now.The deck plate mod draws air from behind the headlight. I rarely get any in there. I've driven through pounding rains, and had water over the front bumper running through rivers. No issues. Plus, if you are in doubt, you can put the deck plate cap on. But hey, it's your ride.

Not trying to be a d!ck here, but just letting you know that you've got your terminology arse-about, and in your other post too which makes me think you simply don't realize it.
The deckplate is the item you buy from the marine store, the air filter housing is the Toyota component that is modified. :)

isn't the whole idea of Deckplate mod is to Avoid getting water in the airbox? screw on the deckplate cap Before you drive into the deep stuff vs. taking chances with the K&N type open cone filter which there's nothing you can do.

for me, performance improvement or not, these two mods are too cheap to pass on. i thing i spent totally of $10 on both. a deck plate and couple hose clamps. a muffler shop did the 7" straight pipe for me out of scrap, the guy thought i was on speed and was laughing while he's working on the tail pipe expander.

Sounds like he was tweakn himself.

What brand deckplate are you guys using and what's the average size everyone is using? I wana be one of the cool kids too. I'm thinking 4 or 5 inch....is that outside diameter? it's night time and I'm afraid of the dark....dont wana go measure my airbox

lol I got the Beckson 4 inch deckplate.

Been running this mod for a while and I'm still happy with it. A lot of people say that it doesn't do anything but I think that it makes a small difference. Like the OP said, with the deckplate unscrewed, it holds onto a gear longer and acceleration when passing is slightly better. Idk if it gives any more actual horsepower, but at least the thing doesn't downshift and upshift as much with this mod. My $0.02

Exactly, for $10 how could you go wrong when you can simply put the lid back on and pretty much turn the airbox back to stock. The only marine store that I'm aware of around here closed down so I was gona look online. Ebay had some beckson 5" deckplates but I don't think they had any 4". Anyone have a link they'd like to share to a good price?

hey cj they have a 4 and 5" deckplate in white at academy if there is one near u... only thing is it comes in white so ud have to paint it.
