I try and close up my deck plate when i know ill be on super dusty trails or if i know I'm about to drive my truck through a huge puddle...


but what do YOU do in the rain?...

Do you close it of leave it open?

I have to ask (consider me ignorant) - if you have to close it in dust or puddles... why do it?

why do the deck plate mod? or why worry about closing it up????



i just try to remember closing it if i KNOW for sure I'm going to be a dirty situation where copious amounts of dust or water may be in or around my air box....
 
I run it open in the rain, at highway speeds and not a single issue and its been little over half a year. Now add snow to the list.
 
If you are on the a dusty trail behind fast moving vehicles or going through a deep puddle fast, you may definitely want to, but for rain, not an issue. Maybe in a monsoon downpour :cry:?
 
I have read a few articles and tests on this. The HP gain is not even noticeable according to the actual dyno tests. Some of the info may have been on here. Not worth the loss of protection to me. I think this is one mod where "it should do" but actually probably doesnt. Just putting it out there.

Its mainly for sound. Point of deck plate is you still have full protection and it's pretty hard to suck water in that hole.

I have ran open cone filter for 5 years. I just go slow through water.

I guess I'm confused by the OPs question, then - it's a truck, so if a mod has questionable value off-pavement, then?

This polled thread wasn't about why you do this mod or the effectiveness of it...

This was simply a thread of "if you HAVE a deck plate", when do you close yours..

I appreciate the responses from people who actually have done this mod & when or even if you close it.

I leave mine open UNLESS I know I'm getting into some stuff that could get in there...

I tried to feel my air filter after a drive down the freeway with heavy rain & the air filter didn't appear wet....

Good point; I have no practical experience with it, therefore nothing meaningful to contribute to the poll.
