i'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF I WANT TO DO THE DECK PLATE MOD OR JUST BUY AN INTAKE. i USED TO BE IN THE IMPORT SCENE AND WOULD JUST GET AN INTAKE KIT, BUT NOW I'M MARRIED AND HAVE A 2YR OLD BOY. WHAT I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IS WHAT IS A DECK PLATE? WHAT IS IT ORIGINALLY USED FOR? AND WHERE CAN I GET ONE? ALSO, WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE DECK PLATE FOR THE MOD. OH BY THE WAY I'M A NEWBIE TO THIS FORUM AND TO TRUCKIN OVERALL.

Welcome aboard!

Use the search function to get details and pictures but.....

It is a modification to allow you to get more air into a 3rd gen airbox, and the hole can be sealed with a boating type plate when you go offroad.

thanks for the reply....i just decided to go ahead and do it after posting this. I had my truck in my shop and being a car audio installer Ihad the tools that was needed. I just used a speaker ring spacer instead of the deck plate mod since I didn't know the true function of the deck plate. I used the speaker ring to clamp down a black cloth speaker grille. No worries I don't off road anyway. the most off road I've ever done was when I drove over a cut out section of the street that they used dirt to fill it in. It was only about 3-4 ft. long. I actually pulled over when I got the chance just to make sure I didn't too much dirt on the truck. hah ha

thanks...

teotwaki for finding that mod. Interesting mod. I have a 2.7 liter myself and just got a B&M transmission cooler in the mail. I might consider doing this mod on my '97.
