So last night i noticed something really crazy/weird. so i finally found a piece of 2 3/4" steel tubing yesterday and did the intake silencer removal (ISR). I already had done the deckplate mod and after doing a couple of tests last night i came to the conclusion that the deckplate mod and the ISR mod (doing cold air intake is almost the same thing) is actually a really bad idea. So i know how my 4runner responds and accelerates and i know that on certain roads in my area my 4runner can and can't do certain things.
With the ISR and deckplate done the very first thing I noticed was that it sounds like sh*t. The second, was that all my low and mid range torque pretty much disapeared. I was extremely disapointed so i got back on the high way to go home and put the silencer back on. But on my way home i have to get on this pretty steep uphill part of the highway. I then noticed that at 70mph my 4runner was having no problem accelerating up this hill, so i decided to put it to the floor to see what happens and (believe me I've tried to do this before and this has never happened) I HIT 108MPH. So i lost all my low and mid range power but gained a ton of high range power. So i got to thinking, I really have no need to go that fast, all I want is acceleration. But for sh*ts and giggles i thought id play around with this a little bit. Ok the number 1 thing about cars that i have no clue about is fuel. Octane to be specific. So i thought maybe throwing some premium in my runner (91 octane in Denver). DONT EVER DO THIS TO N/A 4RUNNERS. So after playing around a little bit I came to the conclusion that to truely get the most out of an intake modification you really need to get your exhaust done too. These to upgrades coupled together I bet is pretty amazing on a 4runner.
