Deckplate mod on a 4th gen?

I've searched and read several threads on the deckplate mod here, and on Yotatech but I can't find the answer.
So is the deckplate mod possible on the 4th gen?
Has anyone done it?

I do not see how this popular Mod can do anything at all. First off, the Intake is not starved for air. Secondly, would not a large hole in the air-box let hot air in? All modern stock engines already use a cold air Intake. Only carb engines with the old ring type air filter, sucked in hot air.

I did it on my Tacoma. All it did was make more noise, used more gas, since you punched it more, and you had to replace air filters more often. I ended up closing it and just foogot about it.

For some reason this was one of the most popular Mods for 2nd & 3rd generations. I have not heard of anyone doing it with a Tundra or 4th gen T4R.

7-8 dyno proven HP to the wheels on 3rd gens and that's the same as the $200 K&N Filtercharger kit gives and I only spent $12.
In the winter I close mine up but when it's open you can sound like a Honda.

I've actually measured intake air temp on a hot summer day, with an open filter element. One of those that sucks in "hot underhood air". When the car was sitting still, temps would rise to 40-50 above outside temp. As soon as you moved, those temps would match the outside air temp.

This was on another car, but I would imagine that it would happen on almost all cars, unless you block off the engine bay.

Exactly and I had the same results on my datalogger on my '93 Eclipse. Opening up the filter or installing an aftermarket element isn't going to give your vehicle 20hp (contrary to what most ricers think) but it's a start and on a 3rd gen new found ponies only cost me about $1.70 each after my deckplate mod.

That's funny. I did this test on a Turbo Mirage with the 4g61t engine. A 1.6L version (nearly identical) of the 4g63t.
