deckplate mod Q for 99 4runner

My box has significant ridges about 3/4" high along the bottom half (from where it opens for the filter to the metal base which it sits). How do I get around the ridges to drill the hole and install the unti? I can't put it above the opening obviously. Anyone work around this and how?

See the ridges? Where can I cut to get anywhere close to a good seal when it is all done?

You do the deckplate mod from the (drivers) side on the 4cyl rather than the front.
