Dedicated Winter Tires & Wheels

I would like to buy a set of dedicated winter tires and wheels for my '03 4Runner Sport, V-6. I'm thinking about Nokian Hak. SUV's, and a basic wheel for the salty garbage on upstate NY roads. Should I stay with the stock 17" size or will a 16" wheel fit this model? I'm more concerned with a good winter tire than a flashy wheel. Has anyone else done this? Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

I've seen this topic come and go a lot. A search for "winter wheels" or "winter tires" would probably produce some results.

For some reason I thought the 2003 SE had 16" wheels and they then upsized them in 2004 to 17" wheels. Could be wrong though.

If you're looking for 17" wheels, I'll soon have a set of stock 17" wheels for sale plus some REALLY COOL stock Dunlops. :awais:

You won't be able to downgrade to 16" wheels due to the size of the SE's brakes, and rotors. You can only go up a size.

I bought a set of the original limited 17" wheels off of ebay pretty cheap from someone who upgraded. Then bought the tires at tirerack.com and had a local shop mount and balance.
