Deer Whistles

You know those things you attach to your bumper or anywhere's else, and the speed of the wind that blows threw it supposed to make a sound for only deers to hear that is supposed to help keep them away? Do those really work?

I was thinking about buying them since I am getting that attachment for my car. I figured if I put them there, they won't stick out. Besides I live in the backroads where I have deer, roosters, turkey volcher, mice, beavers, oh my. Oh I even saw two cows walking down the street one day: yes, without the guidance of people.

My family travels backroads a lot also and our experiences with the deer whistles aren't good. Every car that we have put them on, we hit a deer. The last two cars we haven't put them on and have had no accidents. I've come to the conclusion that the whistle spooks the deer and out of instinct or confusion the deer run out across the road. Many of my friends have had some bad memories with the whistles also and feel the same way. One thing that I have tried is aiming my driving lights down the shoulders of the road and I have been able to spot them sooner and slow down in time.

That's interesting, my brother-inlaw swears by them. But this also comes from the guy that is so cocky he said out loud in front of me and my wife (keep in mind I am a PC tech and she is a Web Developer) that no one knows the internet better than him. Oh, keep in mind his job is a VP of some stock market company. Yeah okay Bill!!!

I work at a Toyota dealership and seems like every car that hits a deer has them on it. The theory Ive heard is that Deer hear them and get curious what they are. I would never use them. I live in a very woodsy area and the only trick to avoiding deer on backroads, unfortunetly, is driving slow.
