Denso O2 sensors any good?

They are Toyota OEM. They are the only one you should use. Amazon is the cheapest source for them.

Toyota = Denso marked up because it passes over the dealer parts counter. There's a magical forcefield on every parts counter of every dealership in the world that makes things expensive.

Whatever you do stay away from Bosch parts for anything Toyota. For some reason or other our Toyotas hate bosch parts and wont work. If you want to put them on your domestic vehicles they work fine.

Don't make this harder than it needs to be. There is a vehicle fit guide on the denso site. You should not have any trouble with the connectors. If you are still on the original O2 sensors, use some PB blaster or CRC 656 on the 14mm bolts before removing.

The rear O2 probably doesn't need to be changed unless it's throwing a code, it's just there to monitor the cat.

The 2002 (and maybe 2001) have the hex plug sensor type that needs the socket. Earlier years all have the flange type shown in the write-ups.

Hmmm... well it's not throwing codes or anything, I can check and if needed, buy the socket. This Toy is at 144,xxx mi. now, and was wondering if there are any Maintenance schedules posted online, maybe something will not be covered in my Haynes manual.

If you live in the salt belt, you probably will need new nuts for the flange type. Part No. 90179-08059 or any stainless M8-1.25 will do.

Does $13.49 at your local NAPA work? I would look at your truck to see if you need it--maybe you can get it with a crescent wrench.

Let me see if I get this straight, the one I want to replace is the one in front of the Cat and that one has a flange and it is 234-9002.
Only need to replace the one after the Cat if it throws a code and that one does not have a flange and is part number 234-4261?

I am getting at least 2+mpg less than I should be, I am hoping this might be the culprit.

Stands to reason it must be the most expensive one $102 as opposed to the $62 one.

Then don't replace it. Like Brian, it doesn't actually do anything other than throw codes. It is 100% waste of money until it is throwing a code.

Yes. Before you blow $100 on an air/fuel sensor, I assume you have done plugs, air filter, and cleaned MAF and throttle body?

Filter yes and have cleaned MAF.
Have not cleaned throttle body nor changed plugs yet.

The guy I bought this from had very good maintenance records going back to 2004 and there is no mention of ever changing any of the sensors, so they are all original with almost 160K.

I plan to have the water pump (also original) changed soon, along with all the belts and thermostat.
When I get that done was going to have plugs and wires changed then.

I am sure at least this one 02 sensor should be replaced even though none have ever coded.

I'd change the plugs and clean the throttle body,but wait on the 02 sensor. There are better things to spend money on. IMO

Even when it has 160,000 miles on it?

Seems to me, according to that link that the front 02 sensor could very well be why I am only getting around 12-13mpg city.

I am definitely going to do the plugs & wires and clean throttle body as soon as I have time to take it in to get the water pump, belts and thermostat done.
I am hoping to get 15-16mpg city once I get all this done, that would save me about $12 per fill up.
