Denver area May 22-25

I will be out in littleton from the 22nd to 25th of may and am looking to get in one or two days of wheeling. I'd like to do friday and/or one other day that weekend but would like to see when people are available. Not sure if there are any good spots to rent a jeep nearby, but if so my sister/parents may come along for a day, otherwise it would probably just be me and my dog (maybe bro-in-law). Got a stock 01 with sliders, A/T's and hopefully skids in the next couple days, so fairly moderate trails to prevent body damage...

Who's available, where could we go?

Also will be mountain biking with my bro-in-law a couple days if anyone is interested. we typically wimp out and just park at the top of apex for one ride down, but i'd like to try making it up this time around (out of shape as it is in Missouri, altitude doesn't help...) Any other trails with nice long downhills we could try? (either parking at the top with a car at the bottom, or just parking at the bottom and struggling up....with about 34 water breaks)

I would love to join but I'm going to be out of town that weekend in Crested Butte. Here are a couple of suggestions....

Regarding 4-wheel'n, ric and a bunch of guys usually go up every weekend. PM him to see if he's available and what kind of debauchery they might be getting into the weekend of the 22nd. Yes, there are Jeep rental places up in Summit County and I think a place out of Georgetown as well, but I cannot condone the rental of a Jeep. :p

For mountain biking, Deer Creek is another good trail right here in the Littleton area. It's an all-up, all-down kind of ride so it might be a little tough on you. If you want another ride where someone can drop you at the top, you could do Lookout Mountain. Mathew Winters/The Hogback is another good one with some good up and down riding, but because of it's close proximity to Denver it can get pretty crowded on the weekends.

Hope that helps and enjoy your trip!

I would love to join however I too will be out of town. I'll let ric know about this thread and he'll work somethin out with you.

Enjoy your trip! You're going to love wheeling here! :bigok:

well Hello fellow Missourian, lol (Im from KC)
yeppers, Im sure we will be hitting a trail that weekend, most of our guys work m-f and some work sat.
Well you will be in Littleton, thats cool, as your close to many of the trails, right now, lots of the good ones are still closed (snow) but they are getting clear as we speak.
Maybe Argentine Pass ? I know we wont get to the top, but it has a few old mining buildings there you can check out, heres a link with info.

Or theres Bill Moore Lake we could try http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=12
and if thats not doable, theres always Yankee Hill http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=48
These are just my first thoughts, untill some of this snow melts, lol

I just checked my shed. I got a graduation party on sat. the 23rd, but Im open on the 24th :bigok:

EDIT:
the GRAD. party is Sunday the 24th, NOT sat. the 23rd..

I messed up..... (yea, Im old, lol) the Grad party is Sunday, so Im free on saturday the 23rd... sorry for the confusion

I don't have a CB :/ do they make cheap handhelds that might work? I ordered a recovery strap instead of the tow strap with hooks you ordered me to throw away. I still need to pick up some shackles- is there anything closer to littleton that would have those other than 4wheelparts in denver? Anything else that's urgent to get without spending my life savings?

Anyone else going to join? I'm sure saturday will work for me. Let's hope some more people get on here and join up...
where's snowrunner, i'm selling him my extra sliders that weekend so he must be around...and all those other co4lo guys!

several I'd consider are bill moore lake, red elephant hill, mill creek, twin cone, red cone. Do you guys usually do just one trail in a day? bill moore, red elephant and mill creek seem to be connected. (but i noticed that tippy section on red elephant...i hate tippy)

Ill be there. As far as off roading, i dont care witch trail we do.

But i would love to do some bikin with you, i would want to do either apex (my favorite), or lair o' the bear, which is a really rollercoastery trail so if your lookin for good fast downhill it may not be the best option. but either way, its up to you

yea, theres a couple 4wheel parts and other off-road shops here,, but IMHO for one wheeling trip, you dont need to go out and spend lots of cash, but if your going to be wheeling, then yea, get what you can.. hope that makes sense, lol
as far as the CB, check pawn shops, Ive seen them as low as $10 for the radio and 5 for the antenna, lol
we will have any recovery gear needed. :bigok:

awesome man. i'm down for whatever for both activities. i'm not a hardcore downhiller by any means (i can remember walking at least one rocky section on apex), i just hate pedalling :)

i'm pretty much free that thursday-monday so let me know when you'd want to go aside from saturday wheeling.

and ric, i agree with you but it certainly won't be my last wheeling trip, especially if i could get a job out there...
i will certainly pick up d-rings (shackles, whatever the term is) and i'll check around for a CB.

I'll be camping that weekend in southern colorado (first 5 day trip of the year! yee-haw). Sorry to miss out, but can you tell me when you are going to meet sn0wrunner with those sliders in hand...I be the guy in the ski-mask hiding in the alley... :bigok:

You are sure to have a good time!

Man i wish my family went camping...I got no one to go with out there and i'm too afraid of being eaten to go alone...have a good time down there.

and i hadn't planned on giving them to him anywhere near an alley...but if i do i'll let you know :)

spork and ric still good for saturday at least?

are there any decent trails that would be good for a warmup on thurs or friday, and are 30-45 minutes from littleton?

Im good for sat.

ok... well i was going to go to my brother's bike race down at angel fire, New mexico. But looks like i'll be staying here so i should be able to make it saturday, I just have to talk my girlfriend into it since she'll be staying with me this weekend. Still good to meet thursday?... in a wide open parking lot... where no one could sneak up on us... hahaha. where exactly in littleton are you staying? i'm usually around Ken Carl and kipling area. PM or email me.

Shawner, what mods do you have ? are you stock ? kiftkit, sliders skids etc let us know, also you looking for more of a senic trail or something with a challenge, let us know so we can brainstorm for a good trail, most are still closed but they are opening lol

snow- yea i'm getting in wednesday night so let me know when you want to meet thursday. my sister lives near geddes and kipling...if those two intersect...which i believe geddes is like 2 streets down from ken caryl.

I've got sliders and belly skids (and the stock flimsy front skids). thats it other than some A/t's, sadly 31's...
i'm definitely looking for something more challenging- im thinking i should be able to do a 5 or a 6 on trail damage? especially if it has bypasses on the really tough stuff. i'd probably rather not rip my bumper off like i saw pics of in your last trip ric (not sure whos truck that was).

and of course, if anyone is interested in another day anytime from thursday through monday, im game.
