I'm going to go ahead and start planning a trip for Sunday. I was thinking if it's just gonna be a few of us that we should do Slaughter House. If anyone has some other suggestions you should post em. Meet at the Conoco at C-470 and Morrison Rd. just south of Bandimere Speedway at 10am.

Slaughterhouse is up Hwy 285 just past my home town of Conifer! It's just before crow hill if your familiar with the area. I have ran it many times. I've had some bad situations there though... I broke my back window one time, got stuck for 14 hours another time... But if we get stuck we at least have someone with a winch :bigok: My friends and I had to walk out till we got cell service to call someone with a winch.

Ric, got any plans yet?

I've done Slaughterhouse more than a few times (I lived in Bailey in the '80s) and several by myself and it's relatively an easy trail but this time of the year youi might encounter a bit of snow but even up there the snow has been infrequent so it might be ok.

Also every kinda hard part has a bypass but overall it's a stock freindly trail.

And this is the hardest spot and I can do it going up but not down and this was the first time I ever attempted it.

I might be able to do Sunday also.. we are suppose to get some snow tomorrow, and I know the hills have been getting it already, but it would be fun, as long as someone has a winch, lol and plenty of Recovery gear.. :bigok:

From the pics Ron posted, I have to ask...Is slaughterhouse going to be very passable in the snow? Seems like for snow you need a somewhat "mild" trail.

Who else has recovery gear (tree savers, snatch block, etc.)?

I have a winch, but have yet to afford the extra gear. Last weekend, Ric's snatch block was pretty useful. Although, I guess without it we could have used my hi-lift and straps to pull him sideways, then backwards with the winch.

I am on the fence. I don't think I have been on either trail before. If it is going to snow on Sat., I would lean toward Sunday.

Your going to make me chose Sat. just out of meer impatience! I would go both days without question, but I am not sure my kids are up for it. Although who knows...after last weekend, they haven't stopped asking about this weekend...hell, their trying to convince me to bring the camping stuff. I guess they learned the impatience from me...

She just doesn't know any better...not sure if I do either!

I have tried my best to get a cb this week, but have had no luck. Someone in parker was selling a hand-held and an in-dash for just $10 each. I was going to buy both, but he never emailed me back. That's the bummer part about Craigslist. Still working on it though.

ouch, 14 hrs...that's a reason to always bring camping gear! worst I did was 6 hrs...last trip of last year, thus my winch purchase...

I dont think either trail are going to be very passable, with the amount of snow thats expected tonight through sat. either way, its going to be a BLAST....

Recovery Gear:
you should at the least, have:
extra clothes, food, and water.
Tow Straps (no metal hooks)
Shovel.
Recovery points on both the front and rear.

this is what I would say is a MINIMUM for a snow run, Im sure Im forgetting something, lol

well with the current snow situation I dont know what's gonna be possible. Slaughter house has alway been my trail for trying new offroad gear out so honestly I could do the trail with my eyes closed. I have done it quite a few times in the snow and never had much of a problem but if it gets too deep it my not be possible. There is a play area that isnt really part of the trail that isn't to far in so that might be a possibilty. I can't do saturday cause its valentines day and im taking the lady to breckenridge. If anyone knows of any lower elevation trails, chime in. and ron if you're coming sunday, I dont suppose you have and could bring a T4R.ORG sticker and ill give you cash. The paypal link just doesnt seem to exist on my computers for some reason and you being a moderator and all...
and CSL to answer your question, I'm just guessing cause you're kinda new to the 4x4 world but slaughter house will probably be the most difficult trail you've been on but you're more than well equiped for it. I took my stock to the bone tacoma up it with 225 street tires with no problem, you just have to make sure to pick the right path, the trails we did last weekend are a cake walk compared to slaughter house but dont let it scare you. Your 4runner is more than capable. Slaughter house is A LOT of fun and a good place to learn how to drive offroad and I know you'll enjoy it.
p.s. slaughter house is only a 45 min. drive from morrison so if we get up there and there's too much snow we could just go find another place.

This summer we should plan a big T4R.ORG trip up to Chinamans Gulch. It's up outside of Buena Vista and is about a 2hr drive so we'll deffinately want to do it this summer cause of snow. Chinaman's is probably one of the most difficult trails I have ever done and it deffinately require really good driving skill but, oh good lord, it is one of the most beautiful and fun trails I've ever done.

Just a suggestion, Wheeler Lake might be a better choice, VERY senic, yet has some great obsticles (with bypasses) heres a link http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=40 and the lake with the waterfall at the end is a great spot for a BBQ
