Thought I would make my own and see how far I get down the road

Here it is the first day I got her:

I want to do LED's in the gauge cluster and the dashboard (climate controls, etc...) But I am having trouble actually figuring out what size they all are. I've read a bunch of threads and there is a lot of conflicting reports.

Then I was going to do LED Tails and clear corners.

But just got the car inspected by Toyota today, courtesy inspection, and found out I have a head gasket leak and water pump leak. So that is going to be around 2k.

So nothing for a while it seems.

Tint looks good. Is that 15% all around?

Thanks man. The front is 15% yes. The back is 'factory tinted' 20% according to the shop. So they tried to make it as even as possible by putting 30% sheets in the back. So now the back are a little darker than the front but roughly 15% all around.

Uh, look around here for HG issues, I don't think you should be spending 2k on it. In fact, I think that someone is doing their head gasket right now. If you are mechanically minded you might be able to do it yourself, or at least shop around competent mechanics.

You could probably get a whole new engine for $2k

I am not mechanically minded at all, unfortunately. But that cost includes new water pump, timing belts, drive belts, something else, plus a new HG and labor and what not.


Wish I could do stuff like this by myself, but unfortunately, I am unable.

Few updates:

Got the repairs done finally. Then got the LED's and installed them today.

Nice. It looks like you have some hot spots, but it still looks way better. Can you post exactly what LED's you used? You have the same climate control as me, and I have never been able to really nail down what it takes.

Yeah I'll post them again here for people who don't see that thread.

3 #24's for the gauge cluster
2 #74's WHITE for the blinkers
4 #74's for (2)climate control, (1) key ring, (1) shifter

Now I want to replace the cig lighter bulb, that one was confusing, looked like it was soldered in. The A/C bulb is extremely small and have no idea what that is. Then the ETC, Rear Defrost and Rear Window are neowedges that are more difficult and will do that at a later date. Oh, also the ash tray is #74 also.

I'm not sure what I want to do with the climate control yet. That is definitely the one that suffers from hot spots due to the bulb placement. Think I might try the LED's with 5 LED bulbs on them from autoillumination and see if that works. The Shifter (not pictured I forgot) is pretty good and for the most part free from hot spots. Key ring is perfect. Gauge cluster is a lot better than I thought and am very content with that.

Hmmm...a 3rd gen and a Grand Vitara side-by-side. Now where have I seen that before?

Nice build. I like the LEDs. Not a huge fan of the "sickly green" color of the stock interior and blue would work nice with my stereo and my Ultra Gauge.

Have you seen the seafoam green color that Chrysler uses? You want to talk about choosing the sh!ttiest looking color you possibly can, Chrysler did it.
