Depressed - Please listen to the youtube link

Hello everyone. Any help on this would be appreciated. I just bought a 2014 Limited 4Runner on Saturday. I got it from a Mercedes Benz dealership. The problem I am having is with the obnoxious ticking/clanking sound coming from the engine that I did not hear when I test drove it. Its more pronounced when the engine is cold, but is still there even when it is warm. Whatever the case may be, I refuse to accept it if it is: "piston slap" because I should not have to pay what I paid, and have this problem, and then be told by the dealer that it is normal. The Truck has 25kmi on it.

Is this normal?

Have you taken it to a Toyota dealership? You should still be under factory warranty.

I am taking it in on Wednesday.

So from what others have experienced of this engine, this is not considered normal I guess?

Kinda has a diesel sound to it :help:

Thank you.

I will let you guys know what the dealer says. I just have a feeling they will tell me it is "normal". But I literally had the car for 5 days and wont accept that answer.

Look into your state's Lemmon laws...some states have a cooling off period where used cars must be accepted by the dealer.

after a quick search, it doesn't apply to car purchases.

Anyways, I love this car too much to just return it :(

Had exactly the same concern as you when I got my 2014. It sounds exactly the same. If you see this thread

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/176446-2013-toyota-4runner-engine-ticking-noise.html

It is due in part to the rolling rocker cam design. Its noisy but bulletproof.
Dont sweat it- just look at it as you have a manly truck that thinks its a diesel.
If you google 5th gen 4runner engine noise there are all kinds of threads on it.
enjoy your new ride and fear not!

thanks for your reply. Thats a sigh of relief.
Does yours sound a little harsher on cold starts?
I am having a second opinion tomorrow.
The first opinion was that it was the injectors and sounds normal.
Thanks

I took it to two Toyota dealerships, and the Mercedes Benz dealershio that I purchased it from. All said it was normal.

From all the input I received, its either the injectors or the cam.

:thanks:
