I don't have the exact info anymore on the 4Runner, but I believe the Toytec BOSS suspension, Light Racing UCAs, and installation with alignment ran about $2500.

New to T4R.ORG and to Toyota as well, but after recently purchasing a used 2004 4Runner for my kid and having fun upgrading it, I got the bug.

My recent build: our newly purchased 2004 4Runner Sport 2WD. I added a Toytec 3-inch lift, BFG AT LT275/70R17, MB Chaos 6 17x8.5 with -6mm OS, Rola Roof Rack, KC Driving Lights, AVS Bug Deflector, AVS Window Visors, PIAA Windshield Wipers, and Hobbit "Shire Life" window sticker...lol. He loves it and is working to pay his share and has to take good care of it, but Dad had to have his fun too..lol:



Just sold my 2013 F150 FX4 EcoBoost with a decent build on it including a Fox/Icon suspension and host of other goodies, but then I made the mistake of going to the Toyota dealership and test driving the newest 4Runners.

I have been driving a number of 4x4 Fords and other full sized rigs for quite some time, and have had some Jeeps and Land Rovers too, so not new to being off road. My last build:



But after driving the new 4Runner, I was so impressed I bought a Trail Edition...lol. I thought I wanted the Limited but I couldn't fit it in with the sunroof, and despite the controversial front end, I actually preferred it over the others (love the hood scoop too). I love how this thing drives; quiet, maneuverable, and much more refined and useable than my past Jeeps, yet still very capable off road!

And the best thing; easy to mod...lol!

So first things first, thanks to everyone on this forum for sharing your ideas and builds as it has been a tremendous resource (and just fun spending endless hours searching and looking at pics...lol). Here is my starting point: 2014 4Runner Trail with KDSS, Enture/Nav/Backup Cam, and so on.

No, have not ordered the new Raptor yet. I am waiting to see and drive one first, and also see how the new gen works out so might be a few months yet. Also, really liking the Tundra so might decide to keep it and get that Jag I always wanted too...lol.

Thanks bim...great to hear from you! Sell the Chevy and get the Tundra...lol. :)

I am taking the Tundra to Telluride over the 4th of July weekend. My brother is meeting me there with his Team Trail Edition FJ that he just built up too and together we're going over Imogene Pass to Ouray. Hopefully, we also can find a moderately challenging 1/2-day route that won't eat up the daily drivers but still have fun!

The chebby is our pull rig for the airstream. Can't give up the diesel yumminess. I have 2 wheeling rigs however... My kids would hate me forever if I sold the 80 series. Have fun on the Ouray trip! Sounds fun!
 
I ventured into 4Runner territory taking the Tundra over Ophir Pass at over 12,000 ft. near Telluride; Imogene was still closed but got to bop around the backside too. My kid wanted to take his 2WD 4Runner but with all the rain I thought it would be too slick and risky to try although he probably would have been fine. Instead, I was accompanied by my brother's FJ Team Edition who actually sustained some damage.

I was actually lurking on tundratalk today looking at your build. I'm still thinking of getting a Tundra as well. I've been using one of my dad's old trucks whenever I need one but he decided to start repainting one and the other quit running so I do need a truck now. I test drove a couple Tundras the other day but the deal just wasn't where I wanted it. I got a feeling it's going to happen soon though.

We are heading up there to the FJ summit this week. Is your brother going to that? What kind of damage did the FJ get?

Thanks Ron! I don't think you'll be disappointed once yet get the deal you want!

Yeah, my brother wanted to attend the FJ Summit but his timing wasn't working out. The damage to his FJ was minor but surprising; the driver side wheel liner got caught on something and was ripped off (probably from some boulders we had to crawl over when we had to make some passing room on the Ophir Pass trail ledge during our rescue of a family that tried the pass in their 2WD Toyota station wagon...lol).

Also, he was running 600 LB rated Toytec coil-overs that weren't handling the weight of his new aftermarket bumper and winch; the coil-overs sagged enough and caused negative camber to his front wheels. So by the time he was done with the trip (offroading around southern CO and driving all the way to Dallas), his new BFG KO2 tires had major wear from the inside.

We saw quite a few stock looking 4Runners and Jeeps making the pass, so it was disappointing that his built FJ didn't go unscathed. The Tundra did very well since I switched out my Toytec BOSS 650 LB rated coil-overs for a set of 700 LB rated ones when I added my bumper and winch. Given its size and being the only full-sized rig out that day, I got lots of thumbs-up from even the Jeep crowd. But I did get some new pinstriping...lol.
