Desert Dawg build...what a switch!

How is the Vinyl holding up.

Hi Desert Dawg,

I know that you got asked this last year, but now that it has been a full two years on the vinyl wrap on the front, I was just wondering how it held up. I just got a similar 4Runner and want to do the same thing and got quoted $60-100 for the job, so I am on it if it is holding up okay.

Hi Mikeke; thanks!

SD G-Mote finally removed the vinyl wrap in order to install the SSS Hybrid bumper on my old 4Runner about 5 months ago. But even so, it was still looking good the last time I saw it even after several on- and off-road trips.

Super pumped on finding your thread, picking up my new 16 TE in super white tomorrow. Not gonna lie man I love everything about your old 4Runner and it's a huge inspiration to starting my build. Thanks for all the posts, will definitely be referring to this thread while building mine! Hope you're enjoying that badass tundra...

Thanks Redbull; glad you enjoyed the thread and congrats on the new TE! Since you're in San Diego, you need to drop a line to [MENTION=125143]SD G-Mote[/MENTION] as he is running around there in my old 4Runner.

I'm just now reading through the 4r build, much less the tundra!

Sorry if I missed it, but how did you mount the rigid lights?

Such an awesome-looking build. I have to admit your 4runner is the one that convinced me I need a 14-15-16 model to start my own build. Thanks for the thread!

Just read the entire build thread and when I got to the part where you sold it I wanted to cry. It's the best looking 4runner ive seen! So many lifted ones look stock and yours is the first I looked at and said wow that looks huge.

Thank you; I am really enjoying my Tundra, but there are days I really miss my 4Runner.

But I decided the Tundra needed some company in the garage, so recently went another direction with this...lol:



















Jaguar F-Type V8S; 500 HP of supercharged bliss, 186 mph top speed, fully loaded including bar maid (just kidding).

Hey man, We have the same lift installed but I wanted to adjust mine a 1/2" higher. I know that 1/4" thread charge is 1/2" overall height adjustment. I did not install or adjust the coilovers myself and have never done it before. I would like to do it myself sometime this week if possible. When you are looking at the coil with the tire off, how many turns usually does it take for a 1/4" thread change? clockwise or counter clockwise. I want to do this right the first time and not be SOL having to jack it back up and take tires off. Thanks for any input.

Hi Rob;

You would turn the collar counter-clockwise to adjust it upward. Unfortunately, I had my local shop install the system although I did observe some. Mine came pre-adjusted at 3-inches so basically they adjusted one side a tad more, measured the thread spacing and then approximated the same for the other. Unfortunately, I didn't count the actual number of turns that were made for the extra 1/4-inch or so but rather they measured from the lift runway. Not very scientific but I was also trying to get them to compensate for the lean some; more trial and error.

Maybe someone here who actually recorded how many turns can chime in!

Yeah I got rid of the 4Runner and I have a pretty sweet 2017 Tacoma six speed lol. I, like you, wanted a truck!
