good deal! I have the same impact with 5ah battery.

You may want to look at Milwuakee impact too. The 2nd gen has higher torque rating than Dewalt and comes with 5 yr warranty. If I have to do it all over again, I will buy milwaukee just because of great warranty on the tool and battery. I love my dewalt impact. No issues whatsoever.

I recenty bought mid torque milwaukee impact as Dewalt tool is a bit heavy. Milwaukee mid torque will remove lug nuts and axle nuts. I keep big daddy dewalt in my truck when I go offroading as I know it is capable of removing all fastners on my truck.
 
This one has 700 ft lbs of torque. I have seen the bare driver (no battery, no nuttin) for $200.00. Figure the battery is about 80. Figure the bag/charger and sockets are freeish.
 
Yeah, I hear you. This one has up to 700 ft-lbs of max torque and 1200 ft-lbs of max breakaway torque.

I am going to order it. Can always get another battery later.
 
5ah battery will last you a long time as this tool has brushless motor, unless you are planning on using your impact tool for 6-8 hrs daily. I don't think an extra battery is needed for most of DIY users like us. Also, these Lithium ion batteries charge pretty fast.
 
Great. Thanks for the info. LBJ's are getting replaced in early Spring and this will come in handy. Have three 3rd Gens in the household so it will pay for itself in short order.
 
Look at refurbished models in both Milwaukee and Dewalt.

I have used a bunch on Dewalt tools over my time and they alway make a solid tool. FYI they are not a 20V like they advertise but 18V like most of the others. Personally i am switching over to Milwaukee for all my battery powered tools. I think the batteries last longer and they also have rapid chargers.

I have had a few trigger problems with my Dewalt tools recently and that has prompted me to make the switch. But i would recommend always trying to buy refurbished 1st seems to be the best value with no issues.


Edit: Buy the most torque you can afford. And never use it to install fasteners. Removal only. Only a torque wrench gets you the proper tightness.

I've never needed an impact for 3/8". I use my 1/2" corded Dewalt for the tough stuff including lug nuts. I do plan on getting a 3/8" cordless ratchet though.

To the OP, its a good deal.

I bought that Milwalk 3/8" cordless ratchet when it was on deal at HD, awesome tool.
 
I have 2 of those in my shop for working on vehicle, amazing tool. Will remove or break any bolt I've put it on. I call it the "Aint care" for that reason, stronger than my Mac tools air impact.
Do not recommend using it to tighten bolts on higher than the #2 setting, the #3 is awesome for removing stubborn bolts. Works awesome for a no hassle removal of CV shaft end nuts, LCA bolts, etc.

FYI, I believe these impacts pull enough power that they NEED the 5.0ah battery to deliver max power.
 
I use the brushless Metabo 1/2".
It's much more compact than any of these. Naturally it comes with some torque drawbacks, but I haven't found anything yet it couldn't take off.
I was convinced after I saw a video on here of a guy taking off the crank shaft nut without having to remove the radiator. Small enough to fit, powerful enough to remove.
 
That's a good deal, they've come down in price. I was working at Stanley Black and Decker 2 years ago when they first came out, and even at employee pricing it cost me more than that when I purchased mine.

I tried to use mine today to crack loose the old LBJ hardware but it actually wouldn't get all of the bolts broken free, I had to plug in the good old pneumatic gun to make short work of a few bolts. The battery showed a 50% charge, so that wasn't the issue.

So wait, you are telling me that the Dewalt 899 couldn't break free the four 59 ft/lb bolts? I have the 3/8 Dewalt 883, four years old, and it can break the LBJ castle nut all day.:thumb3:

In my fifteen year experience with Dewalt, it can be a crap shoot on whether the cordless tool is great or not.
 
I think they’re clearing out all the 899s because they’re coming out with a new version of it as well as most of their impacts

In all fairness, the bolts with exposed threads were super cruddy. I had to hit them with penetrating solution and MAPP gas heat to help them come apart.

Lower BJ nut wasn't a problem nor the TRE nut.
