Did a Drain and fill rear differential today

The owners manual says 3.2 Qts for the V6 2007 4runner. Mine took all 4 Qts before the oil poured out the refill hole. Is that normal? I have the Sport version. Does anyone know how to know if I have a limited slip diff or are they all open diffs?

was the vehicle on level ground? or more important was the diff level? 4qts seems like too much if it says 3.2. i did a diff fluid change last year on my 08 sport v6 & it was very close to the factory spec.

Yes, its in my garage on level concrete

Im not sure where 3/4qt can go in a differential. Could the PO have put the diff from a bigger truck like a Tundra? I just bought this with 220k miles on it.

My 08 sr5 4x4 was closer to 3.7 qts in the rear

I remember it being about 3.5 last time. I don't really keep track just fill till it pours out.
