Did I get a Pilkington windshield?

It's possible that they did infact order a Pelkington. I had mine replaced a few months ago and requested a Pilkington. I looked up the DOT # on the windshield and its a DOT563. I conplained and they said Pilkington makes a lot in China now. He even showed me his invoice and it is straight from Pilkington.

Follow up (been on the road for work, with my 250k + mile 4Runner 
).
the shop replaced my windshield. The shop manager said they ordered direct from Pilkington. I got the same DOT 563 brand but at least it has the tint at the top. I didn't think it warranted to pursue it any further. After driving it for a couple of weeks I am happy with it. It's deflected a couple of small rocks/ pebbles without causing cracks.

I was taking my truck through the car wash today for salt removal & saw one drip of water come down from the top of the passenger side. Pretty pissed.
I replaced the windshield about 4 years ago but I'm not sure of the brand. When I lift up the liner I can see rust all around the window frame. This might get ugly.

I had read what there was to find online on the subject, then set out to find an installer who could source a specific windshield- Pilkington DOT 177, made by L-N in Mexico, rather than the rebranded China glass Pilkington also sells for 3rd gens.
There weren't many local installers willing to verify DOT codes. One place said they could get me the glass I wanted, but when I asked to look at it before installation, it was actually Pilkington labeled DOT 563, which is made by XYG in China.
The manager seemed more concerned with convincing me to have that one installed than with sourcing what I'd been promised. He made dubious claims, such as that the color of sticker on the DOT 563 windshield meant that Pilkington did not sell any other glass for my vehicle. Not confidence-inspiring. But he finally gave up, called his suppliers again, and found me the one I'd asked for.
Long story short- do your research, don't believe what they tell you until you see it yourself, and don't take no for an answer if they try to sell you a story.

You will have received the cheapest of everything they could give you. The insurance has a cap on what they will pay and this is how the maximize their profit.
I would also bet they did not use the piece of foam called a "dam" that goes between the windshield and the frame. This keeps the glass from sitting too low in the cavity and rattling on the dash.
I am in the process of getting mine replaced and learned a lot getting it done a year ago in the Tacoma and made them do it 3 times before they got it even close to correct. Insist on oem parts except for the glass unless your willing to pay about 400 out of pocket.

why is it soooooo hard to find PILKINGTON glass....
i've called everywhere and safelite specifically say they don't know what glass they get until it gets to the shop even though they said that is ONE of the brands of glass they use..
other shops say they can only get PPG or FYG and even go as far as saying pilkington don't even make glass for 3rd ten 4runners anymore. so much conflicting information.
does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this darn glass? this is ridiculous

I remember Tyler James was trying to locate a Pilkington windshield for his, but couldn't locate one. I'll try to find his post.

You can't. Pilkington DOES NOT make glass for 3rd gens anymore. And no stock.
PPG got bought by PGW, and that's as good of a windshield as you're gonna get.
Not the windshield's fault, but I got a chip in mine like a month after replacement [emoji24]
Don't settle for anything else. I've heard horror stories about crappy windshields.

Soooo I'm still confused...
What should I request because I got ahold of a guy who said he CAN get pilkington so if they don't exist is he lying to me?...
So moving forward ideally he gets me what I asked for...
But if not settle for PGW?...

I had a PGW installed a few months ago. A local shop in San Mateo did the install. Very pleased with the service and quality of the windshield. I debated about the replacement for a long time but decided to just go forward with it. I was watching [MENTION=116470]Tyler James Inc[/MENTION] windshield debacle but very happy I just went ahead and replaced it.

The windshield replacement shop told me they could get Pilkington, so I set up an appt.
They show up to do the job with some random ass windshield, and I'm like "what the hell is this?!"
It had a Pilkington shop STICKER on it, but it wasn't an actual Pilkington glass.
What I learned is this- Pilkington has a shop close to me, and they have windshields in stock for our rigs. When a shop calls to order a "Pilkington" windshield, they don't know if it's actual Pilkington glass or not till it gets delivered.
I called Pilkington direct, and confirmed that they are NLA, and actually haven't been in production for over 10 years. Anything that someone has gotten in the last few years would just be remaining stock- which seems to be completely depleted.
I would still give the "Pilkington" glass a shot, and I would be jealous and stoked for you if it's a legit Pilkington. If it's not actually printed on the glass, send the tech on his way, and tell him you want PGW.
