Did I get ripped off?

Yesterday I wanted to install the PIAA's and not wait for my buddy, but I just couldn't get the damn cabling through the firewall on my own, so what I did was go to my nearest Home Depot and bought a set of those rods that are used for running wiring. It cost me $30: now for something that is not mechanical that sounds like a lot. But regardless I needed them to do this install so I bought them. Is that going rate for that tool?

hmm...i just stretch out a metal hanger and tie the wire on the hanger, then shove the hanger through the firewall and...voila!

That's about right for a fiberglass wire fish kit.. a 30ft kit on smarthome.com would set you back about $100.

You can get the self contained steel fish tapes for around $10.

No Tools Necessary

I wired up JGrimball's 2003 with some KC reverse lights a couple weekends ago and we went through the firewall twice and we just shoved the wire through the grommet on the driver's side. He pushed from the inside and I snagged the wire when I saw it on the outside. No tools necessary.

I tried that and I just couldn't get through. But no worries I just realized the obvious: Home Depot is great about returns. Hell I know someone that bought a counter top, cut a hole in it, screwed up in the process, and returned it.
Anyway, I am going the latest this weekend to return the rods.

I feel Home Depot and Lowes give you a good value for the money. Northern Tool does give you a great price, most of there stuff is made in China. I buy both good tools and cheap tools, sometimes I feel cheap and sometimes I don't. I have a $200 18 volt Sears Craftsman Portable drill and a (made in China) $36 Drill Press, go figure.

Also, your right about Home Depot return policy, last month I bought a toliet and after installing it, including the wax ring on the bottom, I realized part of it didn't fit. I boxed it up and returned it, I told them I installed it , but didn't use it and they took it back. I mean returning a toliet is not exactly something you should return, right. I should of said "I only used it once".
