Did I just fry my heads?

Yeah I am definitely not going to make that mistake again.

I put in a new radiator, added a transmission cooler, replaced thermostat and refilled with 2 gallons of coolant. She started up and ran, drove about 20 miles- town and interstate. Everything seems to be running fine...is there something specific I should keep an eye out for?

Did you check the transmission dipstick?
You did not mention anything funky with the remaining fluid during rad/trans cooler install.

If the engine runs fine, would it be smart to drain/fill the transmission to triple check that no coolant got mixed?

The transmission dipstick registered full fluid and it was nice and clean. The stuff that came out of the send and return hoses at the radiator were dirty, but just looked like old ATF. That reminds me: with the tranny cooler installed, my temps on the interstate yesterday were right around 200F. Does that sound a bit high for a dedicated cooler?


So far, multiple starts and drives, smooth starts and smooth driving. No weird noises or vibrations.
I think I might take you up on that suggestion and drain and fill the transmission just to be on the safe side.

Drain and fills are never a bad idea. Some of us do them every other oil change which is probably overkill but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Walmart by me has the 5 quart jugs of Valvoline maxlife full synthetic tranny fluid for like 20 bucks.
