should i have bought a 4runner without airbags and xreas???

If you want the lift simply for the looks, I'd go with the adjustment on the height sensors without a second thought. However, any offroading with this will quickly wear out the airbags. Something like what rebar has done, and there are variations to this, will allow a decent on road and off road vehicle. I did a leaf swap because my 4runner spends the great majority of its miles off in the dirt (to run the dog of course).

As you obviously want to lift it, the answer to your question is "yes, you made a mistake getting a 4runner with RAS", just like a bunch of us on the forum. But there are a few options and they all depend on what you want or require the lift for.

XREAS is no big deal. If you get new shocks and springs you just remove XREAS and be done with it. No worries. I have no idea about the air bags though. Those don't seem fun.

No mistake imo. Lift the front as normal then take five minutes to raise the rear by adjusting the sensors. I'm on my fifth lift setup and all use the air bags for lift in the rear. I love the functionality of the system, so its worth hanging on to for me. If you have a different opinion, them it's easy to swap out.

You still got a 4th Gen 4Runner, so no mistake there. Just a couple bumps in the mod plan.

The easiest way to go if you are just looking for more asthetic look is as other members have stated, modify the sensors so that your normal position is higher to match the Day Star kit in the front.

If you think you can do some wrenching, there are a lot of helpful forums on how to change out the XREAS and even remove and modify the mounts for the airbag system to fit conventional shocks.

im wondering if i adjust the sensors for the airbags will i be maxing out the bags and shocks and if so would that not make the truck rough? im looking at a proper kit with coilovers and just wondering if i can replace the bags with either a coilover or coil and shock...

man jeeps were so much easier ;):
but i really like my runner

adjusting the bags up does make it a bit more firm but nothing I find to be uncomfortable. you are limited to 1-1.5" lift in the rear though unless you replace the xreas.

If you want a proper lift then you're going to have to do what rebar did and ditch your rear air suspension and xreas for new coilovers in the front and coils/shocks in the rear.

read Rebar's build thread and the suspension FAQ sticky for options, then look up your options and decide how much you want to spend.

+1. You really don't need the conversion kit, it's easy to piece together the parts needed for the swap for relatively cheap.
