Did I mess up real bad forgot the washer on the transmission pan

So I did a drain and refill and after I got all done I looked down and there's my nice new washer that fell off the drain plug. Am I good for a while or should I immediately drain refill with drain plug and washer in place? It doesn't appear to be dripping or seeping at this moment.

keep an eye on it for a few days,
if its not leaking its fine.

if you really feel the need to change it, buy a new drain plug. then you can swap the plug quickly, and not lose very much fluid. its messy, but will save you several quarts...

I just did my drain and refill and discovered there was no washer to begin with... After I was done I torqued it to spec and it's been solid. When I do another drain and refill next oil change, I'll have a new washer and do it right. I think you're fine...

Personally, I'd change it just to be on the safe side. Washers/gaskets are there for a reason. But that's just the marine engineer in me speaking..

Also mine took 4.5 quarts it seems most are saying less than 4 on drain and refill ??
So maybe ill watch it and in 1000 miles when I do my next oil change ill just do another drain and refill early

Between 4-5 qts is what ive seen with a drain and fill. Mine has always taken 4 to get it where it needs to be.

If you change the fluid early to get a washer in there, just think of it as getting more of the old fluid out...that way it wouldnt really be a waste of the new fluid you just put in. Some techs i know do about 3 rounds of drain and fills with a couple hundred miles driven in berween to cycle out all the old fluid instead of doing an all out flush.

Drive it around for a good 10-20min to get the temps to operating range and check to see if the fluid is in the hot range. If it is over the hot line on the dip stick then it could be another reason to quickly remove the drain plug to replace the washer and remove a little fluid at the same time.

4 to 5 quarts is about right after a drain and refill.

I'd personally drain and refill it again to get a crush washer in there. And like [MENTION=116877]fourfive[/MENTION] said, you get the benefit of renewing more of your fluid. When I bought my truck, I did 3 drain and refills within a short period of time to get the ATF in good shape.

For whatever reason, my 4runner drained less than 3 quarts. I had some intermittent slipping issues before then and ended up adding 4 quarts. No more slipping since then. I also "found" the washer after I had replaced the fluid. It leaked a drop every minute or so. Another half turn of the bolt took care of that. I will probably do another drain/fill later and replace the washer. So if its not leaking, just wait till next time to replace it. Although FWIW mine was only leaking when the fluid was hot.

For whatever reason, my 4runner drained less than 3 quarts.

When I first got my T4R and did a drain and refill, it drained 4QT's exactly. I just did one last weekend and it was a bit under 3 QT's. I put back 3 QT's to compensate for the inline trans cooler I had installed recently. Checked the fluid level after it "warmed up" and it was on cool, but then again, the trans never reached over 150F to be considered "hot" I guess...
