Did most tire manufacturers just stop making C load 275/70 r17?

I think I've decided I'm throwing 5100 on all corners with Dobinson coils front and back. I'll probably keep stock 265/70 r17, but I would at least consider 275/70 r17 if I could find any decent ones in a C load.

I've seen folks posting about having a lot of tires in C load like Cooper At3, BFG Ko2, etc. in C load as recently as 2019, but I can't find them anywhere. Just don't need an E load tire and not lookin to grab Falken Wildpeak in C 275 at 58 lbs a tire.

Did folks just stop making them in that size recently?

It's an uncommon size and I don't think it was made in C load by many manufacturers. Falken I believe has it, but it weighs more than some of the similar size E load tires for some reason. Kumho also has it available in their AT51, but that seems like a pretty "mehh" tire from reports out there.

You can get a bit more in C if you go to 255/75R17, which ends up actually a bit taller than a 265/70R17, but generally about .7 inches narrower. This was the stock size on MT equipped Wrangler JKs.

Most people you see mention C are either running 255/75R17 or 285/70R17 from what I can ascertain.

Got it; I didn't even realize Cooper used to make that tire in a C load at that size. I think they split the AT3 into the LT line and P-metric lines in the last year or so and probably deleted it at that point (since they probably figured the E load would be more than enough for an oddball size that isn't OEM in most cases).

I'm contemplating running something E-load in 275/70R17 since I'd rather minimize my chance of having to trim much (been there, done that on my previous 4Runner with Falkens in 265/70R17 if you can believe it with SCS wheels due to offset) once I pull my Terra Grapplers off.

None of the tires I'm really interested in come in that size though .

Ya I could see that. Definitely not a whole lot to choose from! I'd almost rather have the Cooper tire after hearing about all the balancing nightmares from KO2.

The 255/75r17 size is very popular. You should give that size a look. It’s also available in just about every load range. It’s a little narrower, but 32” tall.

How do you like the c loads noticeably harsh? I'm running E's at 285 and it's a bit overkill but I wanted to jump to the xtreme and know first hand.

Honestly with E load 285's it's heavy, but I barely notice the weight increase, and what does it honestly matter? These aren't race trucks and runners would make fairly awful ones at that.

To people crying about weight I ask... What does it matter if you barely see a decrease in mpg?

I shredded the stock tires on these jagged desert rocks and blew out two. I now can air way down without a worry. Only complaint about the E load is how harsh the ride is. Will definitely be going to a C load without hesitation.

The KO2’s are not available in a C rating. I have KO2 275's and they only come in a E rating. I did a 1.5/1" spacer lift to level out my Pro. I'm satisfied with the look and result, plus I had to do zero mods for fitment. No rubbing and clearance issues fully articulated and I like running my front mud flaps. BUT, at 57 lbs. and a slightly harsher ride than I would like, I will eventually go to a 285 C rating. I think the 285-70-17 is the best size (looks/off road performance) tire on the 5th gen without sacrificing too much. There is a lot more selection on 285's, and due to selection, if you blow a 285 out, it is easy to find another one no matter where your at. It will also still fit in the spare area underneath. A 285 KO2 116Q C rated tire only weighs 50 lbs. The Falken 275 C rated tire is 58 lbs. The 275, size wise is a great compromise between a 265 and 285, but, due to the small selection I would not do it again.

What wheels do you have and what is the offset? I am going to do a 1.5" level on the front and put 275/70 Wildpeaks. The wheels are SCS BR6s with a -10 offset. I am really hoping I wont have to trim.

I think Firestone makes some of their AT tires in that .

I did 275 KO's first then went to 285 C's............should have just gone 285's to begin with. It "Fits'' the Truck best and is easy to find. They also fit my 9'' Rim correctly where the 275's were too ''Square'' on the sidewall.
