Did some good ole maintenance today!

And boy what a difference. Did plugs and wire, new filter, oil, seafomed, cleaned the gunk from the throttle body, and greased the zerk fittings as well as changing the tranny fluid.

Started with plugs, and after pulling the intake tube, I was flabbergasted by how gross my throttle body was. I pulled it and used carb cleaner and cleaned her up. I was happy I seafomed first, because there was a few oz. that flowed back into a resonator and was sitting in there.

She's like a new runner and highly suggest seafoaming prior to plugs and oil change along with cleaning the throttle body.

Greased the zerk fittings after getting the "driveshaft clunk" and that problem has disappeared.

I was also getting some sticking in the tranny and swapped out to castrol high mileage made for toyotas and the sticking/slipping is gone. Big relief, as I was fearing it was getting ready to go.

Also tightened the VC bolts (they were able to be loosened with hand) and degreased the engine. Also bought a new oil cap as mine was missing the rubber gasket. Hopefully now that it's been degreased, I can see if I get any new leaks. Hopefully problem solved!

Indeed! Gotta tackle the timing belt/water pump next, along with some steering components.

I wish I had taken pics to show how bad the TB was...

I'm sure I could do a search but it's Friday so I'll ask...how easy is the access to the VC bolts? Did you need to remove the plenum or could you access by moving some peripheral stuff out of the way? I've never really examined the cover to be honest.

Awesome I'm glad to hear greasing the zerks helps with the clunk. That's what I'm getting now.

Blanco-easy man, some stuff needed to be moved/shifted but it was easy. I didn't crank on them for fear of cracking them, but I snugged them down

Brian-after reading multiple threads on the grease and types to use, I went with what the chillins (sp?) manual and used multi-purpose. Cured the problem. I'm sure some will say I should've used a different type but it worked so....

Cool. I'm going to see if mine need tightening this weekend.

And yeah, I read the many, many discussions on driveshaft lubing and decided to go with MP grease all 'round rather than use Moly on the zirks specified in the FSM.

You have to remove both the upper and lower plenum.

Passenger side are all accessible. Drivers side bottom are accessible. Drivers side top ones are tricky but you can get to them with a swivel without removing the plenum.

I did all but I think two top on the drivers side without removing anything and mine were way loose and leaking a bit. I need to degrease the motor today and then keep an eye out.

Pit, the two ^^ meant two comments up, the one above yours. Sorry for the confusion

IDK how you guys are doing it without taking the plenums off. Even with them off, its still a pain in the ass to take the valve covers off after their unbolted.

^you're misunderstanding him. He's just trying to re-torque the valve cover bolts. Not trying to change the gaskets or anything.

LD, all I was doing was tightening them man. They were leaking and reached in, sure enough, I could unscrew then by hand. Just went through and tightened them. That's all
