Did you install your HID's with the relay?

Yes I used the relays. No issues after 1.5 years.

Note: one relay that was sent didn’t work, and they sent a replacement quickly which did work

Any resolution to this? Just installed mine this past Sunday and have seen it happen twice so far. I installed mine with the provided relays. I am in contact with XD support atm but just seeing if anyone has found a solution to this.

I got a new ballast in the mail Friday last week as a warranty replacement and installed Sunday. So far at a 100% success rate! (4 for 4)

Disclaimer: I did unplug the relays for now because I was noticing a separate issue on the drivers side with the relay. Plus, this way I know the ballast is working 100%! Then Ill plug the relays back in.

I installed mine sans relay and had this happen a couple of times. I no longer use the auto mode with the HIDs and the issue has not resurfaced. I just fire them up manually after I start my car and turn them off before I get out.

This is an inconvenience to some but I really don't care.

If I could flip them off-and-on with any reliability, I may feel similar, but it could take flipping them on-and-off 5 or 10 times before it fires. (Doesn't matter if the truck is on or off.) And if the truck isn't up against a wall/surface, heck if you know it fired at all without walking around front to check. (Or waiting for them to warm up to see on the ground in front.)

Also, no miss-fires again yesterday or this morning on the new ballasts!

I had power draw issues on my first 4th gen (03) so I used a relay harness from then on. Not sure why people are so against them, it ensures that your ballasts and expensive lights get the correct power that they need. I've used relay harnesses for 15 years or so

I can empathize with your statement. Even though it stopped being an issue - I still look for them to be on where ever I can. Reflections on other cars, walls, store windows, etc.

Relays are not needed for the 2015+ 4Runners. Some vehicles do need them to avoid lights turning off and flickering, mainly European cars. You will be safe and good running the hids without relays. Thanks.

I don't think you understand why relay's are installed in the first place.

They're for cars who's wiring system might not support a ballast going in place. Relay pulls power directly from the battery a harness with properly gauged wire as opposed to over the factory wiring system.

XenonDepot HIDs. No relay. Passenger light does not turn on about once a month. If I turn lights off, then on it works fine. Limited with auto headlights if that makes a difference. SoCal, so not too freezing temps.

I didn't install the relay either thanks to the guidance of members on here. I recently installed the 6400k XD xenons but they appear to be closer to the 8000k temp. and they take closer to 90 secs to get to full power. anybody else experience this?

I have relays installed on my 2018, but only because I run Denso ballasts. They have a huge voltage spike at startup and fully warm up in just a few seconds.

chances are you bought a cheap kit. they should be at operating temp within 2-3 seconds. also anything above about 5000k is decreasing light output in terms of night time visibility

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I searched several threads and didn't really find an answer.

Running the xenon depot relay harness side to side I ran the wiring under the radiator cover, along the front of the radiator top (along the foam). I had just finished driving before the install and that area didnt seem to get very warm. Just wondering if I should add some extra loom for heat protection, or is there a better way to run it, or am I thinking into it too much?

im running the morimoto elites for about a year and now my driver side wont light up from the start. sometimes it will flicker on startup but eventually when i do get two to start up the passenger will have a slight flicker. running relays on them

So far so good. I just hate all the extra wiring that gets tucked away. No issues with heat and wiring.

Just did my high beams with the Volt HID kit. No separate power supply is required with this vs the Morimoto HID kit I installed last week on my low beams. This thing makes light bars unnecessary. I disabled my DRL by cutting a light green wire under the dash next to my left foot rest. That took about 5 minutes, installation took about 1 hour. The only problem is the cluster of wires under the hood. Even if you zip tie and tuck everything, you can tell it's aftermarket due to the excessive length of cable. I'm using the 4300k on the lows and 4500 on the highs. The highs on the Volt kit do have a little blue tint, which I was trying to avoid. The Volt kit ballast is smaller & lower quality feeling, but it looked good on paper, so we'll see I guess. The fog lights look bad color wise, compared to the HID kits.
