DieHard Platinum 31M Operating Temperature

I have a question regarding the DieHard Platinum 31M batteries and their operating abilities in hot weather.

I'm currently replacing my main battery with a group 31M. My intention is to install a dual battery system next, and the 31M will be my accessory battery, and I'll use a smaller battery as a starting battery. I came across some information on Odyssey's website listing two different group 31 batteries, with and without metal jackets. Operating temperature for standard/non-jacketed batteries is 113-degrees F, whereas jacketed can handle up to 176-degrees.

My concern is under hood temperatures in say, Death Valley or Mojave. Even if outside temps are around 110, I'd imagine under the hood could easily be hotter. Does anyone know what effect this will have on battery performance? Decreased overall life, reduced capacity, total failure (unlikely but have to ask)? The metal jacket battery is significantly more expensive.

Realistically it's probably not even a concern, but since I saw the figures from Odyssey I thought it prudent to ask. I may give them a call in the morning just to see what they say, Sears didn't have any information.

I know they're extremely durable batteries, thats why I'm looking at them. I'm really just curious about the rated operating temperature. It seems that Odyssey would not limit it to 113 without good reason, and I'd just like to learn about what those reasons are. Will they be significant enough to stop me from running one, unlikely. I just enjoy knowing the in's and out's of my system :hat:

Doubt you will have problems with the Platinum in heat. I have run them in my Cummins on 100+ degree days where it has sat idling for hours on end and never had any problems. Tons of people over on Expo run them in desert areas and have zero issues as well so I think you are more than safe.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I think I've read the AGM page on that site. I'm pretty fluent with circuits and radio, but when it comes to batteries Galvanic cells where as far as I went lol.

I've run mine in well over 100 degrees for several years in my tundra, and expect the one in my 4runner to do the same. You won't have issues.
