DieHard Platinum Size 34/78DT Battery for winching

I was wondering if the front battery terminals were strong enough to run a winch off?
I would rather have the winch hooked to these but since the winch will be pulling a massive amount of current I worried it may melt or damage the front terminals?

Might want to ask Odyssey (manufacturer). I remember that there was an issue with winch loads on the side terminals on some Optima batteries, don't know if that's still a problem with Optima.

Odyssey makes the Die Hard Platinum - not Optima. I was just referring to Optima as an example of one I remember that had problems with the side terminals.

This is information from the plant engineer where the Diehards are made:

"There is no difference in connecting to the top terminals of this battery versus the side terminals, all operation is identical between the two sets."

So no problem there - either one will work.

Yes - I went w/ the group 31. Sears has a sale on their batteries at least 2x a year. Picked it up for right around $200. You will need new battery J hooks as the battery is a lot taller though. It's a really tight fit other than that but it works great.

I have that same group 31 Die Hard marine battery, going on 3 or 4 years now. X2 on what Hokie said - it fits, barely, in the stock location and with the stock tray.

I have looked last year and they had it on Black Friday sale
I got mine for about $79 after using a credit from buying a new gas grill and a sale price

Just at a local auto store. Even the sears auto store had some. If you wait for a sale, you can sometimes find other online codes that will work in addition to the sale. I combined some and paid $204 after tax for the group 31 marine battery. Buy online and pick up in store.

Back to the j hooks - I got the longest ones they had and cut them to fit.

Maybe I'm just an idiot but I couldn't find any group 31's on Sear's website at least not auto batteries. Did you go with the marine grade?

Does anybody know if the extreme cold would affect these as bad as an OEM battery? Would I still need a battery blanket in MT, ND, MN?
