These is a guy on there that ships in front clips of austrailian surf with the 2.7 turbo diesel. I know the brits had a 3.0 turbo diesel I'm not sure how many of those you can find to import but thats what i want to do.

about 225 hp out of the 2.7 I think

Anybody looked into VW's TDI?

I realize this is an old thread buthere goes anyway: I've heard of this being done, but haven't talked to anybody about it. I have a 2002 VW Jetta with TDI and I love it. I'm burning 100% Biodiesel (20% in winter) and I definitely think the powerplant would be a solid performer in my 4Runner.
Any interest?

One member of our Czech 4runnerclub converted 1st gen. 22RE 4runner. He installed 2L-T engine from 73 series Landcruiser. There were some problems (he had to change the transfer case for 2nd gen. 4runner 3,0TD one, modify the oil pan and turbo). But now he drives well and the engine runs perfectly on the sunflower or vegetable oil from supermarket :)
The horsepower is lower than 22RE but starts on lower RPMs and the torque moment (I dont know if this is right word in English...) is much better.

Here's write-up from the ih8mud.com forums detailing a diesel swap using a half-cut from JARCO.

The quick summary is, you import the front half of a diesel pickup/4runner complete with engine, transmission, t-case, front axle, and even the dashboard/instrument cluster. The engine mounts and wiring is mostly the same, though you may have some issues with converting from right-hand-drive to left-hand-drive (which is detailed in the linked thread).
