Diesel conversion

I have a 98 SR5, 3.4L v6. I know its possible to do a direct swap with the 4 cylinder engine using toyotas 2.2L L-series diesel. But iv read the engine mounts will not work for this in the 6 cylinder. What are the possibilites of converting my 3.4L 4runner to a diesel? are there other diesel engines that can be used? thanks to anyone who can offer advice

The 3.0 TDI or the 4.0L diesel would be better however you would really need to look into local smog and or inspection laws. I believe most states will tell you that you can't do a Diesel swap until the vehicle is 20-25 years old etc. etc.

4BT is the probably the easiest of all the Diesel swaps, The 3.0TD is not really worth it to swap in. I myself would put a 1.9TDI in it, the VW motor, whether its the ALH or the AHU, idk cause of wiring.

But the 4BT is mechanical so the wiring wouldnt be as big of a hassale, but seeing as you are making a thread on a forum i can only assume you dont have much expierence swapping engines, especailly ones that require modifications to work. So unless you have a father, brother or good friend that knows there stuff, then you probably shouldnt be looking to swap the motor out unless you are willing to pay a pretty penny.

I have a 1KZ-TE 3.0L turbo diesel in my Surf and I wouldn't recommend using that engine. It's pretty lousy on acceleration, the aftermarket for upgrades is basically nonexistent. I only got it because diesel is always cheaper here in Japan but with the added engine weight and so so fuel mileage I think it's a wash. Last time I was in the U.S. I remember diesel prices being a good bit higher that 87 octane.
On the plus side I do like the diesel sound and turbo whine
