Diesel swap anyone?

Man i wish i had $6k. Anybody ever seen or heard of this done on a 3rd gen?

Had one in my garage, ready to install. Then I sold it. Not worth it for me. The engine makes very similar power to what my 3.4 does, with marginally better fuel economy. Not "better enough" to justify spending lots of cash that I could use to go on some really neat trips.

It is cool though, as long as somebody else is dropping the cash!

yeah toyota doesnt make that good of a diesel engine now nissan is a different story, for me i rather have a vw diesel with dual transfer

Yeah i saw another thread somewhere where a guy had gone to considerable lengths to convert his 3rd gen front body to that of a taco. It looked real nice. if you did this, that would be an added bonus but i assumed the benefits would be greater then just marginal. Mr leary, was the one you had ready to go complere with body and all likE these?

i think they all are you cant import jap diesel engine in just by it self, only way you can get throught is if you buy the front end all together, and to be honest its gonna take a while to get back all the money you spent with gas money

I saw that a while ago. i think its 6k for the front end clip, but 15k total for them to do the swap I think.

would be cool though. I had an F350 hybrid cause I converted it to run on SVO.
saved tons of money on fuel as i was traveling a lot back and forth from Montana and OR. (nothing like driving 2k miles and not having to fill up on diesel)

miss the truck, but dont miss the gathing and filtering of the oil though.

Yeah, i looked into this swap, i could have gotten the front clip for less than half of that and the swap wasn't worth it. The power can be tuned really high, but with the amount of work going into it and maybe 4 or 5mpg gained i would rather the VW's 1.9tdi (AHU,ALH) or Cummins 4BT which can be tuned to be driven very comfortably with good MPG's, lower cost, and ease of availability for parts.

Mine was a KZN-130, or 2nd gen truck. You do not put the front of the truck on your existing truck. Its just easier to get the half cut because all the accessory parts are there and you don't have to source them.

I never spent the money on the half cut. On of my buddies did so we could pull parts and get the part numbers so we could get them shipped in from Australia. I spent $1800 on the drivetrain and accessories.

I don't know about the VW 1.9 but that cummins engine is pretty tall, not sure how it would fit.
