Diff and Trans Fluids

I have a 1998 5speed 4x4 w/ diff lock.

Want to replace all the fluids. Going synthetic on everything but the rear diff as I don't want to chance a leak. I think I have found everything I needed besides the rear diff. What should I use?

-ordering three quarts (need only 2.3 for MT)
Red Line 57904 (75W90) Synthetic Gear Oil - 1 Quart : Amazon.com : Automotive

-three quarts of this oil (need 1.2 front diff and 1.1 for trans case)

Another member gave me these parts numbers for the plugs but does not have the MT plug listed...
front diff - crush washers (x2) = 90430-24003
rear diff - crush washers (x2) = 12157-10010
transfer case - crush washers (x2) = 90430-18008

Just need to know what I put in the rear diff and I guess what pump I need to buy to get this stuff in the Rig.

edit: I can't tell from the description if the Red Line you have listed for the tranny is MT-90 or not now. It's not the same link as the one I gave you, but it seems like it might also be MT-90, judging by the description. I'm not sure though. I would go with the link I gave you for the MT-90.

2nd edit: And I see that you were actually in that thread. And that both the Red Line links you gave are actually the same. My guess now is that you just accidentally pasted the same link for both, and you meant to paste that MT-90 link for the tranny :lol:

Lots of guys use synthetic in the rear diff with no problems, myself included, at least thus far. If it leaks, it was going to leak sooner or later and it's probably best to take care of it with new seals, but that's just my opinion.

I have used Castrol Hypoy C before in my parent's TRD Tundra with the limited slip axle, as for some reason that limited slip axle it's recommended to use dino oil for the clutches in the LSD itself. IIRC it comes in 80w90. So far so good, it's a GL5 dino and the guys over at BITOG love it, whatever you use make sure it's GL5.

For the pump, you could get a piece of hose, and press it on tight over the cone top of the gear oil cap. Cut a hole in the that cap of course. push hose through filler hole, lift bottle higher that the filler hole and squeeze bottle.

yeah. dont use synth on your transmission. your synchros dont like it... gl4 only

as far as rear diff...pretty sure synth is OK to use. ive used it for quite some time now in the 75w90, 80w90, and 80w140

JEL, I guess it won't hurt to try. Just don't want to get into that type of heavy repair at this time if it does leak.

Fairly common for the drain plugs on our 3rd gens to strip out, as they are hex key... can anyone recommend a plug that can be removed with a wrench? Not trying to threadjack, thought the info may be relevant.
