Diff Drop

Ok so go my diff drop today from toytec and the instructions are for a Tundra No big deal cause it looks pretty similar but it looks like when you drop the diff the front drive shaft will be hitting the cross member? Or does just the front diff pitch down because it looks like only the front of the diff gets dropped? I am kinda confused because it only shows 2 bolts holding up the front diff?

How important are these for our 4runners? I have a limited and plan to lint it 2.5". Do you think I will need to do the diff drop?

I installed the diff drop. Takes probably 30 min. You'll spend more time messing with the Skids than anything. The diff does not hit the cross member. But remember to support the diff before you unbolt it and slowly let it down. Suuuuuper Easy install.

My reason for doing the diff drop... was kind of one of those "why not" things. It'll take an inch of stress off of your CV boots and it came with the lift.

Idk if I'm missing anything in the picture... but it looks like it should be fine.

You got me wanting to look at mine... so i snapped a couple pics with the phone in the event that might help you out.

Either way its beyond easy to take the diff drop right back off if there are any contact issues.

The diff drop is just for the front mounts. Basically angle the diff down up front. Because of that, the net result in drop is like half the size of the spacer I believe.

That is correct, roughly about 1/4", not much to make any difference at all.

For those that have done a diff drop do you feel like it was a worth while thing to do? Did it make much of a difference to the CV angles?

A "diff drop", does not actually drop anything. It "levers" the front of the diff, down. I had one on my FJ, and did measurements...A one inch drop only equates to about an overall difference of less than 1/4" in CV angles. Not much to do anything really...I would recommend lowering your front adjustable coilovers, if you have them, rather than installing a diff drop.

This afternoon I installed a diff drop kit I ordered from Toytec. It definitely dropped the front differential more than 1/4". I had my front end nearly level with my rear and I wasn't happy at all with the angles of my CV joints. After installing the diff drop kit the angles look almost stock. The diff does angle up slightly in the back but it wasn't as if the kit just rotated the front of the diff down. The whole diff was lowered by the kit. Only down side I've seen so far is that you will lose a bit of skid plate clearance as the rear of the front skid and the front of the mid skid plate need to be lowered by about a half inch with spacers to clear the lowered diff supports. I would recommend the kit for anyone who has their front-end raised high.

BTW: Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take a before pic of my CV angles.

Perhaps I should clarify.

The angle of the CV's, when adding a diff drop, is roughly 1/4" difference in a lifted application. I did measurements on my FJ with approx 3" of lift. I added the diff drop kit, and it only netted me 1/4" of CV angle. The CV's are in the middle of the "lever", the back of the diff being the fixed point, and the front going down.

The diff is not dropped or rotated....It is levered downward. A diff drop would drop the entire differential even in the back, which it does not do.

But if it works for you, great.

Mechanic suggested that I add a Diff drop to help with the axle articulation but from what everyone is saying, doesn't help much. Thanks
