Diff fun

So I was having some Diff issues, I am not a gear guy and so took it to a shop, 800+ dollars just to look at it in labor, no parts or anything...what??? so I am guessing at least 1000. so now i am looking into just ordering a pre-assembled Diff and dropping it in myself.
1. is this a good idea?

2. level of complexity seems easy enough to do, am I right?

3. anyone in CS want to help (had to ask)

also anyone have a good place to get a assembled diff by maby this weekend? I am evening thinking ARB set up but still debating that. marlin crawler is 2 weeks out...

any help or advice would be great.

If I were to re-gear or need to replace my diffs, I'd go through East Coast Gear Supply for sure. I've heard a lot of good things, and not too many (if any) negatives. Prices are good too.

Is it your front diff or rear diff causing problems? I'm guessing maybe front since you mentioned "dropping it in". No one will be that quick. Your best bet is Easy Coast Gear Supply. They are a great group of guys and know what they're doing. I got my front assembled by them with an ARB and gears. Full warranty too.

Another vote for ECGS, they are right up the street from me. Great group of guys, and if you have questions give them a call, they are more than happy to help

ok to clear it up its the rear diff, 1998 4runner SR5, no e-locker.
I know the bearings are shot, not sure what else since I have not opened it up.

I would love to take the time and learn how to rebuild it all out, but don't have the time at the moment, or anyone that can help that has the knowledge and its my DD so if I run into a problem I am stuck without a ride. so a quick afternoon or weekend job would be ideal.

Hey Skrimz, call Bob at AJ Salvage and see what he can do, they should have all the parts that you need, and all they work on are Toyotas and Subies.
