Difference from 2010 to 2011? TE

Hey guys just graduated from lurker status to member. This site is great and all the info has given me a great list of mods to install once I get my new 5th gen TE.

I currently own a 96 Limited 4WD with 237,000 miles on it and its starting to act its age. Still runs great and I would love to continue to not have a car payment but my new job will put on close to 100 miles a day and I'm not sure it will hold up to that kind of abuse for very long. My sister has also never had a car and I figure what are big bros for right? This 3rd Gen has treated me well and I would love to keep it in the family.

I plan on getting a TE with KDSS and Nav. I was wondering if you guys know the differences between the 2010 TE and the 2011? Is it worth it to get the 2011, or are the changes minimal? There are some good deals out there now on the 2010's and that down payment is burning a hole in my pocket. Also do you guys know if I can get this model without that re****ed sliding shelf in the back? I am constantly loading decoys, guns and dogs in the back and I often sleep with the seats folded and see this as a large obstacle to doing that.

There are no real differences between a ’10 and ’11 that I know of. Maybe slight changes in what features are “standard” and what are “optional”. There have been several discussions here on the topic and the consensus seems to be if you can find a good deal on a ’10 and you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time then go for it. Depreciation on the “year old vehicle” will be a bit more then the ’11 but if you don’t plan on selling it anytime soon then it doesn’t matter since they are both brand new.

As far as the sliding shelf, I am almost positive it is standard on the ’11 and likely standard on the ’10. Either way it should not be a deal breaker. People have removed them and covered the floor up with heavy carpet and it looks quite nice… It is a pain in the butt to have to remove a feature you didn’t want in the first place though… I am in the same boat as you. If given the choice I would not have chosen it. However, it has served as a fantastic baby changing platform on several occasions already….

I purchased a 2010 TE for the excellent deals out there right now , in my research there is not enough difference between the 2010 and 2011 to pay more. Good luck with your purchase

There are no differences, the sliding tray is standard, and if you remove the cargo stop, you can sleep quite nicely with the seats folded down as the tray is at the same level.

it's trivial to remove the cargo-stop, which is the real problem. and after removing it, like SeattleMike said, the rear lies perfectly flat for sleeping, etc. bonus: you don't have to remove the rear headrests to fold flat on the 5G.

also, in my experience, the sliding tray is actually more useful than i originally thought it would be.

I want to take mine out completely and re carpet it. It takes up to much room with the height added.
I use the back with and without the seats folded down way to much to have that in the way .

I tried this over the weekend, but doesn't quite work for those of us that are "men of impressive stature".

I agree 100 percent. Great table or seat for tailgates...

As far as sleeping goes, I am 6' even, and every 4runner I owned has always been like a few inches too short for me to stretch out, So I always have to remove the bottom part of the seat, which is easy to do, esp if you install wing nuts like I do so it requires no wrenches.

it would be better to get a 2011 since the 2010 already has a book value unless you can get a deal that is lower. it's not fun buying a car and already being negative.
