Difference in front differentials from '98 to '00?

Is there any difference between the front differential of a '98 sr5 and a '00 Ltd that has the Hi4 on the fly button? Or is the only difference in the transfer case? Other than gear ratio of course.

I want to swap the e-locker rear end from my '00 into my '98 but would like to also swap front diffs since the gear ratio is different. I just want to know if I am going to have to find front differentials from like models for each with the proper gear ratio.

I don't know the answer for sure, but you could figure it out by entering both vins into www.toyodiy.com and comparing part #'s.

Differential itself is the same, you just have to swap the torque tubes between the 2 diffs.

Just the outer tube or the internals as well? Or will that all come out as one?

The tube and everything thats in it. It's just the actuator, gear, and stub shaft, the stub shafts should be the same. The difference is the actuator, 98 is vacuum and the newer is electronic. It's an easy swap, just make sure you have E-torx sockets.

'96-'00 are vacuum and are the same actuator. '01-'02 are electric.
