differences between '00 and '02 5VZ-FE

I'm swapping a 2000 t4r 3.4 into a 2002 t4r. Both 4wd, auto, both complete trucks will the all the engine dongles and doodads attached.

Does anyone have experience with swapping over older engines into the 2002? 2002 has the drive by wire so I'll have to swap throttle bodies. I haven't seen any other major differences yet, are there vacuum hose or wiring differences? The wiring harness should just be plug and play right? Maybe move some things around and reroute a few hoses?

The actual engines themselves are identical, it's just the stuff that plugs in to the engine that might be slightly different, right?

thanks, I'll try to document the process a little and contribute something here when it's done.

Yeah, kinda.
You'll need to use the engine harness from the '02.
I seem to remember reading the intake mani isn't identical either, and that has to be used from the '02 as well. I could be wrong on that, and I guess if the TB bolts up, you should be good to go.

If you are swapping harnesses (which you have to do for the electronic throttle and trans wiring differences), then you can use the '02 intake manifold pretty easily too - it has to come off for the harness swap anyway.

yeah, reusing the TB and harness. the only other difference i've found at this point is a green w/ orange wire that goes from the bowel of the engine out under the diagnostic port directly to the firewall and connects with a security alarm switch thats also connected to a sensor that tells if the hood is open. it's just one dinky wire and i dont really care about a security system, but im afraid to cut it in case theres some dark security magic that freezes up the engine. making the final sweep to check for connectors and unbolting the trans today. then the real fun starts. thanks for your help so far

The ADD plug is probably the hardest to notice/find. Some of the trans plugs are a pain to work with, but those are all easy to find...

If the 2000 is a Cali. exhaust two-cat system you will be fine there, but if it is 49-state/Federal one-cat system the exhaust manifolds are slightly different because the crossover is different. So you may have to swap over those manifolds, too.

Exactly HOW different I don't know, because I've never tried to marry one to the other. But they are different p/n's on the manifold and cross-over.

I pulled that sucker apart twice forgetting to unbolt the harness anchor on top of the drivers side motor mount. And by the time you have the engine 6" in the air and realize your taking part of the body harness with you it's too late.

The 2000 is the cali compliant, looks good so far. I have everything off the 2002 except the top 4 trans bolts, god those are a pain. so far looks like reusing the external bits off the the recipient vehicle (wiring harness, TB, exhaust manifolds) should be good. I gotta figure out where this dreaded ADD plug is, I keep hearing bad news about it. Since the 2002 engine is getting a rebuild i went ahead and pulled the the top end off of it before removing it, it made the hose and vacuum lines behind the engine a breeze to disconnect.
