Different center caps?

I've searched Google with not much luck. Does anyone know if there's someone out there that makes center caps with things on them instead of the Toyota logo? Or even a different shape cap than the stock ones. I was thinking about this today as I was putting on my new All Pro spacers.

I have to admit...this thread really freaks me out.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/151197-careful-if-you-install-wheel-spacers.html

I JUST installed spacers today and now I'm considering taking them back off and selling them. I'm not sure I'm cool with knowing this could happen (I didn't know this could happen) when my 5 year old is riding with me.

If you install the nuts correctly and facing the right way, you really shouldn't have to worry.

Spacers are fine if installed properly... the failures highlighted in that thread were the result of improper installation.

Make sure that all mating surfaces are clean and make sure the spacer is fully seated against the hub. Apply threadlocking compound... I like Vibra-Tite VC3. Using the lug nuts provided with the spacers facing the correct way, finger tighten them making sure to center the lug nuts in their holes so the seat properly. Torque to spec... re-check after usually 100 miles.

I was initially paranoid about mine coming loose, but that only lasted until I checked them about three times and confirmed that none of the lug nuts were backing out. I just check them with regular maintenance now and don't even worry about them. I've had them installed for about two years now and even have had to remove/reinstall them twice to swap axle-shafts.

I'm not sure about your center cap question... I think it might be hard to find aftermarket caps that work with stock wheels.

I didn't use any locking compound. Should I go back and do that?? I ordered the ET lugs from All-Pro all the way around. I installed (or rather, a friend of mine helped me install) the lugs with the cone shape going in toward the rotar. We torqued them to 85lbs. The wheels were also torqued to 85lbs.

We drove 10 miles and pulled the tires off and checked the torque again. That was per the All-Pro instructions. They were still torqued to the 85 that we put them on at.

So I guess I'll check them again at 100 miles.

It still makes me paranoid a little. I guess I'll get over it and all will be fine or I'll get over it and watch a tire roll off while driving. :dizzy::happens:

id put thread locker on

Then that's what I'll go back and do. I ordered the Vibra-Tite VC3 from Amazon. I couldn't find it locally.

I also bought a few things that I needed today that I have been borrowing from friends...a floor jack, a torque wrench, and some jack stands. Pretty basic stuff, but I'm more of a wood worker than a car guy. These things will likely be the extent of my car tools.

Got the Vibra-Tite, spacers, and wheels back on. Now I'm off to get some new tires. Thanks for the Vibra-Tite suggestion. I feel better about it now. Especially considering the spacers were still pretty solid on there after 250 miles.

You should check the torque. If you torqued them to 85, check torque at 80 or so so you dont break the seal on the thread locker

I don't understand. What do you mean check the torque at 80? Since the specs were 85 to 90, I actually put them on yesterday (with thread locker) at 88.

Do you mean when I go to check the torque, check it at 80? I shouldn't have to check the torque again until next weekend or so, right?

hes saying check it at 80 so you wont break the thread lock connection. If you check it at 85 itll still torque over which would break the seal per say.

I have no thread locker and grade 10 but it wont back off. I've checked once a month and still at original torque.

Vibra-Tite VC3 can be manipulated multiple times so you don't have to worry about "breaking the seal"... that's why I like it so much for this application.
