Different colors w/ Satoshi grille mod

I have a desert dune 97 4R. I am about to start the Satoshi grille mod but can decide to leave the grill chrome or paint it body color. Has anyone made this mod in this color or have pics to share to help in the decision. Feedback wanted!

Well this thread died.. haha. Oh well I was hoping others made this mod so I can see what theirs looked like prior to doing it. I did take a look over at yotatech and saw a few that helped (If this is your 4R than awesome, I love the work and assisted me)

I think the black grill looks good....which I never thought would but I like it. I also just like the chrome. I also wanted to see what the colored front turn signals looked like to so I added. I think the look turned out nice. Forgive the crappy photoshop skills.

i have a 98 desert dune 4runner, and also want to do the satoshi. i have wondered the same thing about painting the grill body color, black, or leaving it chrome.

that picture you photochopped on is member/moderator Bob_98SR5 on yotatech.

i use that picture to test out ideas all the time because its such a great shot of the front end.

here is a picture of a desert dune 99 (steve schaefer, www.sonoransteel.com) who has a black 01-02 grill:

i still haven't made up my mind. i think i'm going to just say 'screw it' and paint my grill black soon. its just paint, i can always redo it.

although, it may look weird right above my stock chrome bumper, so i may wait until i buy/make a new bumper so the black grill will blend with it.

i just want anything but chrome really.

i am also on the fence about the oranged out clear corners. maybe you can do everything first and if it looks good i'll follow suite? :)
 
@ garrett - Yeah if you do go with black let me know... I think I am sticking with the chrome now that I pretty much did ever color option in photoshop. The body color on the desert dune doesnt pop. Thanks for the pics and links. I am some clear corners from somewhere but havent bought yet. Trying to find some good ones. I purchased crappy replacement ones a few yearas ago on ebay and they were a pile of poo... I get more water inside them than the radiator. But yea once I get them I'll follow the painting thread on yota and post some pics.

Sidenote @ ebelen... can you post anymore of your front end? That looks great. I was checking not only your grill here but the guard and lights.. combo looks good.

Here's another older one. I have recently got the scooped hood and plan on color-matching the front bumper (should happen in the next three weeks or so). Don't have the hood protector anymore either.

BTW, I'm always looking to change the look of the truck and have been interested in selling the bar and lights. One deal on this board fell through but if you're interested, e-mail me at [email protected].

I haven't seen one. I personally think it would look funny color matched. The reason I like the look is that you get the "Toyota" emblem and it looks like it's floating.
 
well not necesarily color matched but just hollowing out the inside of the 98' grille and just having the gutterguard but have a chrome kind, like this:

has anyone tried anything like the chrome stiching on the cadillac cts, i went to their parts dept today to see if i could get a small sheet of it but they were closed and i imagine i wont be able to, but has anyone had any luck with anything like that?
 
I got antsy waiting for the parts dept today so me and a buddy went to lowes to get some reinforcing wire and used that.

also in the picture you can see the bug guard from one angle when its purple, but it also changes to orange, yellow, red, and blue depending on where you stand.

I've never been a fan of billet grilles and the pic you are referring to looks like that to me.

Now, what you did w/ the stuff from Lowe's is what I like because the mesh is not flush w/ the grill but more behind it. If you look at a lot of the old FJ's, the satoshi mod looks much more like them. To me, it's a retro look...

yeah thats what i thought too that it looked like a billet grille but he said it was gutter guard

mine was a PITA to fit right and get the molding to lay down around the 2 curves
